Community Engagement and Social Responsibility: Sandip University's Impact Beyond the Campus

A community conscience is extremely necessary for a society to thrive and function to its full potential. It is imperative to instil a sense of social responsibility in the nation’s youth to make them aware of their role as global citizens. Several top private engineering colleges in Maharashtra are engaging in various community engagement activities to help students become conscientious in their approach towards society.

Sandip University, Nashik is leading the way in community engagement and social responsibility today. The University has consistently initiated various programs to prompt social, economic, and environmental benefits to various communities in Nashik. Let us take a look at the impact Sandip University has had in Nashik through its community engagement programs:

  1. Roadside Plantation Development

Sandip University collaborated with Nashik Municipal Corporation to plant and maintain plants and trees over a stretch of 35 kilometres. This area stretches from Pinnacle Mall to Papaya Garden. The roadside plantation initiative contributed to the Central Government’s Green Highways Policy, 2015. The goal of this initiative was to control air pollution as plants and shrubs naturally absorb pollutants, reduce noise pollution, conserve soil, and generally beautify the highway.

  1. Water Resource Management

Sandip University has robust water management and conservation facilities on its campus. A water dam and a percolation storage pond have been constructed on the University’s campus to make the campus self-sufficient regarding its water needs. The goal is to ensure that Sandip University does not depend on the Nashik Municipal Corporation for its water needs. Furthermore, water from the dam and the pond provide water to nearby villages in times of need.

  1. Tree Plantation Initiative

Sandip University collaborated with Nashik’s District Magistrate to plant over 20,000 trees in the area spanning between Nashik and Dwarka. This initiative was in line with the Maharashtra Government’s tree plantation initiative under the Social Responsibility Cell “Shahbhag”. The goal was to provide lush greenery, shade and cooler temperatures in the area while also increasing its forest cover in the long run to fight climate change. This initiative continues to provide employment opportunities to various gardeners, civil engineers, and the maintenance crew.

  1. Kumbh Mela Organisation

Sandip University actively helped the Nashik Municipal Corporation in organising the Nashik-Trimbakeshwar Simhastha phase of the Kumbh Mela, one of the largest annual cultural events conducted nationwide. As one of the top computer engineering colleges in Maharashtra, Sandip University employed over 150 engineers to create an application to help with crowd management and transportation of pilgrims. Volunteers assisted the police force in micro-planning the Mela to avoid mishaps. Food and refreshments were also organised for the on-duty police force at the Mela.

  1. City Beautification Initiative

Sandip University is committed towards beautifying Nashik while also preserving its natural and cultural heritage. Multiple locations across Trimbakeshwar and Nashik city were revamped and returned to their former glory due to painstaking efforts undertaken by the University. The projects undertaken are in sync with the Nashik Municipal Smart City Development Corporation, and the Central Government’s Smart City Mission to boost tourism, elevate the residents’ standard of living, and increase employment opportunities in the city.

  1. Social Initiatives Beyond Nashik

Sandip University, Sijoul has initiated various projects and social development programs to ensure social, economic, and environmental benefits for the residents of Sijoul. The University has been an active participant in the Swachh Bharat Abhiyan initiative undertaken by the Government of India to maintain cleanliness within the area. The University also launched an OPD treatment initiative in keeping with the Government’s OPD of Government Health Care Facilities (AYUSH) initiative.

  1. Establishment of “Sandip Skills”

Sandip University has collaborated with the Central Government under the Deen Dayal Upadhyaya Grameen Kaushalya Yojana (DDUGKY), and initiated Sandip Skills to positively impact India’s workforce. Unique training centres have been set up in Nashik, Jaipur, Assam, and Meghalaya with the goal of providing employable skills to Indian youth from underprivileged backgrounds.

Conclusion

These are some of the projects initiated by Sandip University in Nashik and Sijoul to fulfil its social responsibility to the nation. Here, students are trained to become responsible, skilled, ethical, and enlightened individuals committed to global growth.
