India:In a groundbreaking move, Hiranandani Upscale School is breaking the silence on LGBTQ+ issues in Indian educational institutions. While many schools avoid discussions on sexuality, Hiranandani Upscale School boldly organised workshops, sparking essential conversations on LGBTQ+ inclusion.

The event, attended by the entire teaching and non-teaching staff, parents, and students, showcased the school’s commitment to fostering an inclusive environment. Partnering with Humsafar, an NGO dedicated to LGBTQ+ advocacy, Hiranandani Upscale School hosted sessions simultaneously in the classrooms challenging myths and stereotypes.

Mr. Sivakumar Srinivasan, Director of Hiranandani Upscale School, emphasized the institution’s dedication to creating a safe and informed community, stating, “Our commitment to fostering inclusivity and understanding through enlightening sessions on LGBTQ+ issues is unwavering. These initiatives underscore our relentless pursuit of education beyond the ordinary, ensuring our community is equipped with the knowledge and empathy necessary for a diverse and accepting society.”

Students, currently exploring genetics and evolution in their curriculum, enthusiastically explored the dynamic nature of life and diversity. Beyond academic goals, the sessions sensitized students to the challenges faced by LGBTQ+ individuals in educational settings, promoting acceptance through engaging discussions.

In support of this endeavor, Mrs. Aplana Dange,Research Director at The Humsafar a Mumbai-based NGO expressed her enthusiasm for the collaboration, stating, “Partnering with Hiranandani Upscale School to facilitate discussions on LGBTQ+ issues has been truly inspiring. As an organization dedicated to LGBTQ+ advocacy, we are thrilled to provide insights on topics that are still considered taboo in Indian society. Initiatives like these not only break barriers but also foster inclusivity from a young age, laying the foundation for a more accepting and compassionate society.”

The event spanned three consecutive days, featuring enriching sessions that captured the enthusiasm of students, staff, and parents alike. Hiranandani Upscale School’s proactive stance sets a commendable example, paving the way for more inclusive educational environments nationwide.
