New Delhi, 27 July 2018: The share of female students is lowest for Institutes of National Importance (24.06%) followed by State private Open Universities (26.92%) and Deemed Universities Government (28.9%), finds All India Survey of Higher Education (AISHE) 2017-18. AISHE 2017-18 report has been released today by HRD Minister Prakash Javadekar during the National Conference of Vice-Chancellors & Directors.
Meanwhile, the share of female students for Institutes under State Legislative Act is 58.93%. Share of female students in State Public Universities are 48.80% and Central Universities are 35.65%, respectively.
The report informed that the Gross Enrolment Ratio (GER) in higher education in the country is 25.8 per cent in 2017-18, which is calculated for 18-23 years of age group. GER in 2016-17 was 25.2%.
Total enrolment in higher education has been estimated to be 36.6 million with 19.2 million boys and 17.4 million girls. Girls constitute 47.6% of the total enrolment.
GER for male population is 26.3% and for females, it is 25.4%.For Scheduled Castes, it is 21.8% and for Scheduled Tribes, it is 15.9% as compared to the national GER of 25.8%.
Maximum numbers of Students are enrolled in B.A. programme followed by B.Sc. and B.Com. programmes.
About 79.2% of the students are enrolled in Undergraduate level programme. 1,61,412 students are enrolled in Ph.D. that is less than 0.5% of the total student enrolment.
At Undergraduate level the highest number (36.4%) of students are enrolled in Arts/Humanities/Social Sciences courses followed by Science (17.1%), Engineering and Technology (14.1%) and Commerce (14.1%).
