Report by Rudra Narayan Sahoo, New Delhi: The second edition of National Institutional Ranking Framework (NIRF), popularly known as India Ranking Report, is released today (03 April 2017) by Union HRD Minister HRD Minister Mr Prakash Javadekar. The entire list was prepared by HRD Ministry in six categories: Overall, Engineering, Management, Universities, Colleges, and Pharmacy.
In the engineering category, many institutes have seen ups and downs in their rank compared to previous year ranking. Among engineering and technology institutes in India, Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Madras has once again emerged as the best institute in 2017. The top six positions have remained same in 2017 as compared to previous year edition. Hence, IIT Bombay features at second spot , IIT Kharagpur at third position, IIT Delhi at fourth rank, IIT Kanpur at fifth position and IIT Roorkee at sixth place in NIRF 2017.
IIT Guwahati jumped by fourth positions to seventh place vs 11th place last year. Surprisingly Anna University , Chennai bags eighth place while Jadavpur University, Kolkata occupies ninth place. IIT Hyderabad slips to tenth place Vs seventh position last year.
The next two ranks are bagged by two NITs: National Institute of Technology Tiruchirappalli (Tamil Nadu), 11th and National Institute of Technology Rourkela (Odisha), 12th.
Vellore Institute of Technology, Vellore finds 13 rank, the top private institute among the engineering and technology institutes. Birla Institute of Technology & Science –Pilani (BITS Pilani) another private institute emerges with 16 rank holder in NIRF 2017.
