How to organize comfortable online learning for children: advice to parents

Now educational websites for kids are the only way to continuously gain knowledge. Online learning is practiced in schools, universities, courses, and even kindergartens. In a few months, many have already got used to it. Yes, there were some downsides, but there were a lot of upsides as well.

High school students and students managed to adapt easily. But the students of primary and secondary schools had to face difficulties. It was also a problem for their parents. Unfortunately, quarantine is in no hurry to end, which means that many still have a need for the proper organization of home online learning. Our tips will help you maintain a harmonious atmosphere at home, and your child will remain a good or excellent student.

LIMITATIONS – NOT A WAY OUT OF THE SITUATION

Many moms and dads are sure that distance learning makes children irresponsible and undisciplined. To influence this, parents begin to control and limit more, often force the student to report and double-check homework several times. This is a gross mistake, since for a child the very fact of changing the format of education is stressful.

Just imagine, before the child went to school, communicated with peers, experienced failures more easily, walked more on the street, and did homework at home and rested. Now the apartment is becoming the only space in which both learning and recreation take place. And all communication with peers comes down only to messaging in Telegram. Therefore, take as a rule a few tips in order to provide your child with a healthy psycho-emotional atmosphere at home:

  • Don’t turn learning into a 24/7 job. Remember that quarantine will end sooner or later, but a student may not have a desire to study after busy weeks at a distance learning;
  • do not scold for bad grades. Every person needs adaptation. Don’t think that the blame for poor learning lies solely on your child’s shoulders. Try to carefully understand the reasons before drawing conclusions;
  • talk not only about learning, but also about well-being, experiences, needs;
  • reduce the importance of online learning. Treat this as a norm, and not as a call to engage the whole family in a detailed study of the school curriculum.

Stress and burnout are conditions that are faced not only by adults, but also by children, adolescents, and young men. Therefore, in organizing online learning, focus on how to maintain a healthy emotional background for the child, and not on how to do everything.

Workplace organization

At the start of organizing remote classes, you should pay attention to the conditions for learning. Many families do not think about the importance of a place for a child. Someone learns lessons in the kitchen, someone – on a coffee table, someone in the bedroom on a chest of drawers. Remote learning and work has shown that it is necessary to create a workspace at home. At least to:

  1. the child understood a simple thing: at the table I study, and on the bed I sleep and relax in my free time from study;
  2. take care of the correct posture. If a student sits in the wrong position for a long time, then over time it will not be possible to avoid problems with the spine;
  3. it was comfortable for the student to lay out all the necessary teaching materials and notebooks, put a laptop or computer.

What should the workplace look like?

Ideally, if the workplace is in the student’s room, so that no one from home interferes with him during online lessons. But not every family can provide a separate space for a child, so just try not to interfere when the student is busy. In this case, it makes sense to purchase:

  • a headset so that the child can listen to the teacher and answer questions;
  • computer or laptop. It is important that the child has his technique for distance learning. It happens that a family has 1 computer or laptop, and during quarantine, all family members need to use it. You must remember that it will be inconvenient to organize training on a phone and tablet;
  • a separate table for the student, where only his textbooks, notebooks and all necessary supplies will be located;
  • high speed internet;
  • comfortable chair for a computer desk with height and back adjustment.

After you have collected everything you need, take care of the lighting, the correct height of the table and the location of the workplace in the apartment. cheba without harm to health: about lighting, computer desk and chair

Online classes are not school lessons. There are breaks at school, physical education lessons, trips to the canteen. All this makes it necessary to maintain a balance of sedentary work and physical activity.

During distance learning, many children sit at the table for 3-4 hours. But everyone remembers that the child’s body is just being formed. And the task of parents is to make sure that there is no scoliosis and back pain. How to do it? Take advantage of our reminder:

  1. Adjust the monitor to eye level. Sit the student upright, and set the screen so that the child’s eyes look at the top third of the computer. Not higher and not lower. After all, if the monitor is located low, you will have to constantly tilt your head and spoil your posture.
  2. If classes will be held using a laptop, then take care of the stand. The location of the laptop on a table without a stand makes you lower your head down and hunch over. Get a special stand.
  3. Eye protection. In order for the child not to spoil his eyesight, purchase special glasses for working at a computer.
  4. Nice chair. It is unacceptable to sit for a long time on a stool or a chair with an unregulated back. The chair should have armrests so that the child does not hold the elbows overhang.
  5. Roller for the back. For high-quality support of the vertebrae, it is necessary to fill the space between the back and the chair. If the chair has an anatomical shape, this is ideal. If you have a regular computer chair, then put a cushion on the child to support the back.
  6. Footrest. Feet should not hang down or barely touch the floor. The feet should be straight in order to keep the back straight. A stand will do just fine with this.
  7. Good lighting. It would be great to install a table near the window so that most of the time the child is engaged in natural light. But if this is not possible, put a lighting fixture to the left of the child.
  8. The brightness of a computer screen. Adjust the brightness of your monitor so that your eyes don’t get tired. It should not be too bright or too dim. The ideal solution would be an automatic brightness control function. Depending on the day and lighting, the computer itself will adjust the brightness of the screen.

EDUCATIONAL MATERIALS

It is a mistake to think that the school should provide all the books, manuals and workbooks during online learning. Yes, teachers do their best and constantly send children printouts, assignments, all the necessary screenshots of the rules and presentations. But parents should understand that for quality education and homework, it is necessary to ensure that the child is methodically staffed. What does it mean? This means that he should have problem books, various collections, dictionaries and textbooks with him. You can buy them, borrow them from the library, or at least print them out.

Parents should keep in touch with the teacher, asking what books to buy, what collection to study, what educational materials it is important to purchase to consolidate the material.

A scanner and printer can become a faithful assistant in online learning. Now popular are MFP systems that allow you to print and scan information. By purchasing such an assistant, you can easily find all the necessary information on the Internet and print it out. This will save money on the purchase of textbooks, as well as optimize the process of communication between the teacher and the student. In particular, with the help of a scanner, your child will be able to scan completed homework and send it to the teacher (if necessary).

THE CORRECT DAILY ROUTE IS THE KEY TO SUCCESS IN STUDY

Everyone talks about how important it is to learn the basics of time management as an adult. But we believe that you need to learn to control your time from school. You do not need any special notepads, notes on your phone, alarm clocks and other electronic tricks in order to introduce the child to the correct daily routine. Simple enough:

  1. Make a home schedule. You can hang it on the refrigerator so that the student first knows when he needs to have lunch, when he should rest, what time he should start doing homework.
  2. Perform all daily duties at the same time. Waking up, breakfast, lunch and dinner should be at the same time so that a habit develops in a couple of weeks, and the child learns to use his free time, adjusting to the schedule.
  3. Give a clear understanding of what a “deadline” is. With the advent of distance learning, many schoolchildren have erased the boundary of obligation. Tell the child to start his own notebook, in which he will record the periods for submitting homework, essays and independent work. Share tips on how to get things done on time. For example, especially for yourself, set a deadline 2 days earlier in order to be in time for the designated day.
  4. To form a correct understanding of the categories “study” and “recreation”. The child needs quality rest in order to restore strength. Therefore, make sure that outdoor games, outdoor walks, at least mini-workouts using YouTube videos are present in your daily schedule. Do not resist socializing with classmates and friends. After all, if a student only studies, it will be difficult to avoid burnout.

A properly drawn up schedule is the key to success and a healthy psycho-emotional state. Keep this in mind and do not neglect simple tips.

Online learning is a reality that has firmly and permanently entered our everyday life. Instead of denying online classes, try to arrange for your child all the conditions for a full-fledged remote study.
