Bangalore: Indian Institute of Science, (IISc), Bangalore, has emerged as the Indian institute with the largest number of top scientists in diverse fields in a global database of 100,000 scientists from around the world, according to a study published in PLOS Biology, a peer-reviewed journal.
IISc Bangalore appears at the no. 1 position in India and 353rd globally, with 94 scientists in the list. IIT Delhi stands at second in India with global rank of 497. A total number of 64 scientists from IIT Delhi find place in the top 2% of scientists in the world.
IIT Kharagpur emerges third place in India with overall rank of 689. A total number of 43 scientists from IIT Kharagpur are in the top 2% of scientists in the world.
IIT Bombay finds fourth spot in India with 41 scientists in in the top 2% of scientists in the world. IIT Madras stands fifth place with 34 scientists in the top 2% of scientists in the world.
The study has been conducted by a famous analyst group of Stanford University published in the journal of PLOS Biology. The study has ranked top scientists inclusive from various disciplines worldwide by normalizing all publication data across fields, which is inclusive of the top 2% of scientists of their respective main subfield disciplines.
The database provides standardised information on citations, h-index, co-authorship-adjusted hm-index, citations to papers in different authorship positions, and a composite index.
