Gandhinagar: The discipline of Physics at the Indian Institute of Technology Gandhinagar (IITGN) is going to organise the 31st meeting of Indian Association for General Relativity and Gravitation (IAGRG) on December 19-20, 2020. Given the present COVID-19 situation, this meeting will be arranged as a web conference.
The Indian Association for General Relativity and Gravitation was first constituted in 1969 and has been active ever since in fostering general relativity related activities in the country. IAGRG national meeting is organised every two years, at various locations in the country. It is regarded as a significant and prestigious national conference in the field of Gravitational Physics, Cosmology and Astrophysics.
National and international scholars and subject experts are invited as speakers during the conference. The online meeting would also have parallel sessions and poster presentations on Classical Gravity, Cosmology, Gravitational Waves & Astrophysics, and Quantum Gravity. The Plenary seminars of IAGRG meeting will be delivered by the international experts of the field.
This year is also the 50th anniversary of the famous derivation of black hole quasinormal modes by Prof C V Vishveshwara, which is fundamental to establish the existence of black holes from LIGO gravitational waves observations. In view of this, the broad theme of the 31st IAGRG Meeting is ‘Quasinormal Modes from Black Holes’. On December 20, between 6:40 PM – 7:25 PM, the conference will have a special session on the Life and Work of Prof C V Vishveshwara.
