Gandhinagar : The Center for Creative Learning (CCL) at the Indian Institute of Technology Gandhinagar (IITGN) conducted a series of STEM workshops for schools under the Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation (AMC) between January 19 and February 6, 2026, engaging more than 500 students from Classes 5 to 8 through hands-on learning activities.

The two-hour immersive workshops were organised both at participating school campuses and at IIT Gandhinagar’s facilities, with the aim of strengthening foundational understanding in science, mathematics, and computational thinking among young learners.

The outreach began on January 19 at Khokhra Gujarati School, where over 100 students explored mathematical concepts through “A4 Paper Math” activities. Using simple A4 sheets, students created models demonstrating geometry, symmetry, and spatial reasoning, alongside interactive demonstrations illustrating scientific principles using everyday materials.

Students from Ellisbridge School No. 12 later visited IIT Gandhinagar for a workshop on the area and volume of geometrical shapes. Through paper-based experiments and live demonstrations, students explored how mathematical principles apply to real-world situations.

Workshops held for Sanklitnagar Primary School No. 2 focused on the science of sound, where students built simple instruments to understand vibration, frequency, and resonance. A chemistry-themed session for Indrapuri Public School introduced students to basic acid–base reactions through creative experiments and demonstrations.

From February 4 to 6, students from Trikampura Public School, Millatnagar Urdu School, and Dudheshwar Gujarati School participated in sessions on computational thinking. Activities introduced students to concepts such as logical reasoning, problem solving, and basic cryptography through interactive exercises and games.

Jay Thakkar, Senior Technical Officer, Center for Creative Learning, IIT Gandhinagar, said,
“At CCL, we believe that the best way to understand science and mathematics is by doing and exploring. When students touch, build, and experiment with simple materials, the concepts become real and meaningful for them. Our goal through these workshops is to encourage curiosity and show students that learning STEM can be joyful, creative, and connected to everyday life. Seeing their excitement and questions reminds us why such experiential learning opportunities are so important.”

Educators observed enthusiastic participation and curiosity among students throughout the workshops. By transforming textbook concepts into interactive experiments, the initiative aimed to make STEM subjects more accessible and engaging for young learners.

The workshop series reflects IIT Gandhinagar’s continued commitment to experiential learning and outreach, encouraging scientific temperament and curiosity among school students.
