New Delhi, 26 November 2020: Indian Institutes of Technology (IITs) and National Institutes of Technology (NITs) will start offering engineering courses in mother tongue from next academic year, the Ministry of Education said in a press statement today.
“A seminal decision was made to start technical education, especially engineering courses imparting education in mother tongue will be opened from next academic year. A few IIT and NIT are being short listed for the same,” the statement added.
Union Minister of Education Shri Ramesh Pokhriyal ‘Nishank’ today chaired a high-level review meeting on various schemes and programmes of Education Ministry. Secretary, Higher Education Shri Amit Khare, Secretary, Secondary Education, Smt Anita Karwal and senior officials of the Ministry attended the meeting.
The Minister said that all the officials of the Ministry are working on to ensure proper implementation of National Education Policy, with an aim to achieve holistic development of students and transformation of Education system in the country
As of now, it is learned that Ministry of Education has selected IIT BHU to start engineering courses in mother tongue, Hindi. More institutes, such as IITs and NITs, will be shortlisted for the purpose in the coming days.
