New Delhi: Guru Gobind Singh Indraprastha University (GGSIPU) is offering an interdisciplinary MOOCs course titled ‘Society and Media’ for students amidst this lockdown. The 15-week free online course would be an interesting option for the students whose academic schedules are disrupted due to the pandemic.

The University is working tirelessly to combat the unplanned academic halt due  through online courses, webinars, and lecture series to continue the learning process.

‘Society and Media’ course is set to be launched through the Ministry of Human Resource Development’s platform SWAYAM.  The course is in its second run. It was amongst the top five courses launched from the SWAYAM portal in the odd semester in 2019 with more than 1200 enrollments from across the country.

MOOCs course is designed and coordinated by Dr. Durgesh Tripathi, Founding faculty of University School of Mass Communication (USMC), GGSIPU. He said that “students from various disciplines and subjects should enroll in the course to gain a better understanding of the role of media in our society as it has become an integral part of our lives and impact all of us.”The course was selected among 42 other courses from across universities based on its demand and quality of content.

Dr. Tripathi urged that the students should take advantage of the situation and enroll for the course to gain new perspectives on the functioning of media especially when we are flooded with fake news and misinformation.

The course is a collaborative effort of the Media academicians from top Central and state universities across India. The enrolment process for the course has already begun. Till date, more than 500 learners have already registered for the course. The registrations for the course will be open till 15th July 2020.The examination for the course will be conducted by National Testing Agency (NTA).  On the successful completion of the course, the learner would get a certificate verified by the host institution.
