Gurugram: KIIT World School hosted a captivating talk show on the occasion of National Handloom Day. The event aimed to raise awareness about the cultural significance of handlooms, their integral role in preserving our country’s heritage and to shed light on the invaluable contributions of the handloom community to our nation’s socioeconomic development.

The esteemed guests of the talk show included, Shakti Khanna, the visionary Founder of #thesareestory on Facebook. Also gracing the event were Vibha Mehdiretta, the Former Deputy Director of TNC London & SPD, ICCR, and Vani Subramanian, the Former Director of INTACH. Notably present were Deedhiti Saikia, a celebrated promoter and designer of Assam Handloom, and Seema Agrawal, the Founder of Artisan Saga.

The talk show commenced with a fervent call to action by the esteemed speakers, stressing the paramount significance of creating awareness about the handloom community’s exceptional contributions to our nation’s cultural and economic landscape. Each speaker emphasized the need to preserve and uplift the legacy of handloom weavers and employees, encouraging the audience to provide more opportunities and support to this age-old craft. A quiz competition was also organized for the students containing questions related to the history of handlooms.

Neelima Kamrah, Principal, KIIT World School, highlighted the significance of National Handloom Day, emphasizing its role in empowering India’s handloom industry and promoting its global recognition. She said, “Handlooms represent our country’s rich cultural heritage and serve as a vital part of our identity. With increasing integration of handloom products in clothing and home furnishings, this industry has witnessed a rise in employment opportunities, leading to improved conditions for skilled artisans.”
