VARANASI: Banaras Hindu University and Power Grid Corporation of India Limited have inked an MoU for the construction of a 200 bed rest house at the Sir Sunderlal Hospital of the varsity. The understanding was signed on Wednesday in the presence of BHU Vice-Chancellor Prof. Sudhir Kumar Jain and Director (Personnel), PGCIL, Dr. Yatindra Dwivedi. The Public Sector Enterprise under the Government of India will provide Rs. 17.88 crore under CSR for building the Vishram Sadan, which will benefit the family members of the patients coming to BHU for treatment. BHU hospital caters to the medical needs of a vast geographical area of this part of the country and patients from various states visit the health facilities at the university. The facility is expected to be completed by March 2026 for which BHU and PGCIL both have reiterated their commitment.
Arun Kumar Rai, Senior General Manager, and In-charge, Varanasi, signed the understanding from Power Grid Corporation, while Registrar Prof. Arun Kumar Singh inked the document on behalf of the university. The Vishram Sadan will be constructed by the Central Public Works Department.
Vice-Chancellor Prof. Sudhir Kumar Jain lauded PGCIL for this generous endeavor and its commitment for giving back to the society. He said that the university will do all that is required to ensure that the project progresses at the desired pace and is completed within the timeline. He suggested that collaborating with PGCIL in the areas of its expertise could greatly benefit the university.

M.S., Sir Sunderlal Hospital, Prof. Ankur Singh, and Prof. In-Charge, Trauma Centre, Prof. Saurabh Singh were present on the occasion. Naveen Srivastava, Executive Director, Head of Northern Region, Sibabrat Acharya, Head, Personnel, Northern Region, Md Sabahat Umar, Chief Manager, Power Grid, Lucknow, Binod Kumar, Sr. Executive Secretary, Power Grid, Varanasi, D K Mishra, Dy Manager, Power Grid, Varanasi, and Ravi Kant, Chief Engineer, CPWD, were also present during the MoU signing.
