New Delhi: IIT Delhi has once again emerged as India’s best education and research institution by securing a global rank of 118, an improvement of five positions from last year’s 123rd rank, according to the QS World University Rankings (QSWUR) 2027 announced on June 18, 2026.
With the 118th rank, IIT Delhi has also equalled the highest global position ever achieved by an Indian institution in the QS World University Rankings.
According to the QSWUR 2027, among the various performance indicators that played a key role in the Institute’s improved global ranking, Employer Reputation has recorded a jump of 11 positions to achieve 39th rank. This indicator is designed to evaluate the perceptions of global employers on which institutions are providing the most job-ready graduates.
In the area of Employment Outcomes, the Institute recorded a jump of 60 positions. This indicator has been crafted to reflect the ability of institutions to ensure a high level of employability for their graduates, while also nurturing future leaders who go on to make an impact in their respective fields.

Citations per Faculty indicator has improved by 26 positions. This ratio measures the average number of citations obtained per faculty member and is an estimate of the impact and quality of the scientific work produced by universities.
Speaking about the rankings, Prof. Somnath Baidya Roy, Dean, Planning, and Head, Ranking Cell, IIT Delhi, said, “IIT Delhi remains committed to the goal of providing world-class affordable technological education and becoming a preferred destination for scholars worldwide. Our revamped curriculum, new infrastructure, and increased international engagement will enhance our quality and impact in the coming years. We see rankings as an outcome, not an objective. If we do the right things for the right reasons, rankings will follow naturally.”
Over the last four years, IIT Delhi has improved its global ranking by 79 positions, i.e., from the QSWUR 2024’s 197th rank to the current 118th.
In March 2026, QS World University Rankings by Subject was announced, in which several major IIT Delhi engineering and technology subjects registered remarkable improvement in their world rankings, with Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Computer Science, Chemical Engineering, and Civil Engineering emerging as global top 50 subjects. Moreover, IIT Delhi achieved a global rank of 36 and continued to be the top Indian institute in the Engineering & Technology category.
