Sanskriti University School of Engineering and Information Technology conducted a webinar on “Intellectual Property Rights “. Objective of the webinar was to reach out to the young minds, aspiring for and to understand the issues and challenges faced by the students and Impart knowledge on Intellectual Property Rights. Dr. Alok V Kulshreshtha, Senior Manager, Glenmark Pharmaceuticals Ltd., Mumbai was the keynote speaker of the Webinar.

While addressing the participants, Dr. Alok V Kulshreshtha discussed in detail the trends and developments of patenting in India. He started his session by giving an overview of patents and its brief history in India. He informed that patents in India are governed by the Indian Patents Act (1970), which was last amended in 2016, where Product Patent was extended to all fields of technology including IT sector and patents in Intellectual Property Rights.

Alok V Kulshreshtha insightfully explained about the Intellectual Property Rights in his session. He discussed in detail about Invention, What to do before filing the patent application? What is a provisional application, Pros & Cons of provisional specification? Drafting a patent provisional Specification, Content of the draft Specification, Description, Claims, Indian Patent system to filing the Patent, Indian Patent Filing Timeline, organizational Chart , Controller General of Patents, Designs & Trade Marks, Ministry of Commerce and Industry, Department of Industrial Policy and Promotion and PCT filing Procedure were other topics for discussion.

Sanskriti University ProVC Dr. Rakesh Premi said that our country needs to diversify its Patent Portfolio to come at par with major patent destinations such as China, Japan and the United States.  To achieve the objective of Atma-Nirbhar Bharat, the Domestic Companies of India along with Education & Research Institutes should come forward to register their patents in good numbers.

During this webinar, participants interacted with the expert speaker during the discussion session. The webinar culminated with Vote of Thanks.
