As part of our ongoing design-led conversations, The Design Village (TDV) organized an interactive session for students with a leading Dutch spatial and experience design firm. Kossmanndejong centers around exhibition design and interior architecture. The content developer and partner at Kossmanndejong, Femke Bijlsma shares her knowledge with students about exhibition Design and Interior architecture. The subjects of its exhibition designs vary from architecture to children’s books, and from history to psychiatry, art for teenagers, and microorganisms.

The session aimed to help the students and facilitators through a pie-like non- hierarchical design approach undertaken by them as a workspace where collaborations work deeper. Through her audio-visual presentation, Femke explained the connection between content and imagination. She also mentioned the importance for the audience to have an intrinsic experience and how they manage to do this while making complex design issues.

The visit helped students to broaden their horizons as Exhibition and Space Designers of the multiversal tomorrow. An example of such intervention can be seen at the Roman Villa Museum, Castle Cary (UK) which transports you to the year 351 CE – discovering what daily life in Britain looked like in those days. Audio stories and interactive games-part of design reveal how the Romans worked, lived, judged, and gambled.

The session concluded with the floor open to questions on the future of exhibition design and work opportunities in the Netherlands and what it has in store for the new generation of designers.
