An Olympiad is an exam that is conducted to assess the performance of students. It is conducted at all levels for all classes. Class 6 is the primary level of high school education for children. Though these exams can seem to be pretty difficult in the beginning, they mainly aim to improve the skills of students. A math Olympiad Previous Year Question Paper Class 6 2015  can help students identify their skills and perform accordingly.

Students will develop a fear especially when the exams are nearing. Not to mention, students of class 6 can be extremely nervous due to the transition they face. To not panic is the first thing to be followed while facing any exam. There is a general saying- ‘Well begun is half done’. The first step to attend an Olympiad is to become familiar with its pattern. This can help the student to become aware of the questions that are asked and prepare a schedule for the questions that are generally asked.

Syllabus

Knowing the syllabus is an unsaid rule for the preparation of any Olympiad. The topics that are included in any maths Olympiad are generally taught at school. However, the questions asked tend to be tricky and indirect. It is better for the student to make sure that all the topics are properly covered.

Time

Time management is very essential. Anything that is prepared in advance always tends to yield the best results. Dividing proper amounts of time towards studying, revising and practicing can help to perform well in exams. Apart from studying, a specific amount of time is needed to relax the mind too. Relaxing can be done through any simple activity or hobby that is liked by the student such as playing, drawing or listening to music. Following such methods can greatly avoid lags in work and tension in the minds of students.

Writing Down

Students must be taught to regularly write down what they have learnt. This can improve writing speed and also gives additional handwriting practise. The habit of making note of points contributes to self- analysis that can be done by the student regarding the time consumed for arriving at a solution. These skills will later be reflected during the exam. The skills can be utilised to mainly write down steps to solve a mathematical problem. They can be used not only for mathematics, but also many other subjects.

Diagrams

Paying attention to mathematical diagrams is also appreciated. When a student feels bored of solving problems through numbers and variables, he/she can shift their attention to topics like graphs, statistics and circles to divert their attention but also not waste their time. Equal attention to all the topics will help achieve better results. Moreover, diagrams in mathematics can easily fetch marks for students and are also less time consuming. Drawing a diagram wherever possible is also greatly welcomed. Recalling what has been taught throughout the day is also essential. This can help in retaining important formulas and key points that are prepared by students throughout the day. Focusing on learning topics by heart will not be of any use to the student. Even if little things are learnt, they have to be properly remembered.

Activities

Physical activities such as walking, running, jumping, skipping increase body metabolism and make the brain much more active rather than sitting in one place for the whole day without any body movements. It is believed that yoga and meditation can boost the concentration and the IQ level of students and the mitigation of stress and anxiety in young minds.

Mental Preparation

Making mental connections is an easy method to remember things. One can try to relate what he/she has learnt with several other subjects. Creativity can be enhanced through such practices. Basic phenomena like mind maps, keywords and short forms can increase efficiency in usage of complicated data. Such instances of memory can be of timely help when time provided is really less for the student towards the end of the exam.

Groups

It is not always necessary to study alone. One can study in a group and enjoy the advantage of receiving opinions from every member in the group. This helps to enhance one’s learning experience. In a group study, there is much sharing of resources and materials apart from interactions and discussions with fellow members.

Visual Media

Watching visual materials can help students memorise certain values and formulas that are generally difficult to learn. Audio and video materials are well received by students and linger in their memory for a longer period of time.

Relax

It is important to relax on the previous day of the exam. Revising the relevant topics makes one feel relaxed. Getting ready for the big day in advance is good. Preparing required stationaries and admit card is appreciated.

Sample papers and various guides can be referred for practise of sums. This can help the student to know the scope of a particular topic and the types of questions that are asked. Students must always be taught to double check their work towards the end of the exam. This can guarantee accuracy of the answers and build the confidence of candidates who take up the exam. During an Olympiad, it is always better to use a separate sheet for solving the problems. By this way, neatness can be ensured. Some exams require the students to submit their worksheets for further inspection. A student must always be taught to be careful during such exams. Carelessness can lead to grave mistakes being made. There must be concentration in every step of solving a mathematical problem. Units have to be properly noted in order to avoid silly mistakes being done. If the student is not able to arrive at an answer for a particular question, they can choose to keep it for the end. The questions which require less time and are easier to solve can be completed earlier.

With all these tips, practising more can help the student prepare for their big day.
