HYDERABAD :In a joint initiative with Rajiv Gandhi National Institute of Youth Development (RGNYID), an Institution of National Importance under the Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports, Government of India, NIRDPR is organising entrepreneurship training programmes for the Youth of North East. It is aimed to train 600 unemployed youth from the North East in Rural Technologies under this programme.
The first batch consisting of 30 youth from the districts of West Imphal, Thoubal and Kakching have already received training on ‘Leaf Plate and Cup Making’ held at the NIRDPR campus between 9th and 14th December 2019. They were exposed to the different kinds of leaves available in abundance in the North East that could be converted into plates, cups, glasses and spoons, replacing similar plastic products.
Delivering the valedictory address, Dr. W.R. Reddy IAS, Director General, NIRDPR, urged the trainees to become employers providing employment to other youngsters in the North East by becoming successful entrepreneurs rather than looking up to others to provide employment.
The RGNIYD and NIRDPR will be organizing this programme for youth from eight north eastern states which will help address the unemployment situation in the Region.
Speaking about the benefits of this training program, Prof. VasanthiRajendran of RGNYID who is coordinating the training with NIRDPR officials, said, “The skills development programme to youth from North East will immensely help them as they can stand on their own by initiating enterprises which can produce products to not only meet the requirement of local areas as well as supply to other parts of the country”.
Under this programme, the youngsters will be trained on skills such as Mushroom Cultivation and Mushroom Products, Compressed Stabilized Earthen Blocks Making, Sustainable Hosing Technologies, Home Based Products – Phenyl, Dish Wash Powder, Detergent Powder, Solar Lights Assembling Installation and Maintenance, Leaf Plate and Cups Making, Herbal Beauty Care Products, Neem Products, Vermi Compost and Vermi Wash Liquid, Handmade Paper into value added Products Bags like bags, Honey Processing and Packaging, Ethnic Bag Making and Food Processing through Solar Dehydration, among other areas.
Hands-on training was given on the machinery that is manufactured by the partner institution of the Rural Technology Park of NIRDPR. The various aspects of entrepreneurship, marketing, raising financial resources and raw materials were also given to the trainees. Upon completing the training, theyouth will return to their villages/districts and receive assistance in establishing self-employment units.
