One of the best parts of getting older is that we finally have time to enjoy the things that we love most. However, if we didn’t prepare for a comfortable retirement by putting enough money away, we can find ourselves struggling to pay the bills.

A lack of an incoming paycheck is what leaves many seniors looking for part-time work. However, in our older age, our bodies are not capable of one that they once were in our younger years. There are some jobs that are more suitable than others when it comes to working as a senior. Here are some of the best ideas for part-time jobs for retirees.

Nanny

If you had children of your own and you’re now a grandparent, then chances are you have plenty of experience dealing with kids. Many parents are looking for someone just like you to help take care of their children while they’re at work. Whether it’s a few hours after school for elementary-aged children or helping out with a newborn, a nanny job may be the perfect choice for you. The average hourly nanny rate is $20 and in some cases, it may be under the table which can be favorable for tax time.

Tutor

There are many kids who need extra help with homework, however, their parents may not have the skill set, patience, or time. If you have a passion for academia and helping others, then a job as a tutor could be a perfect part-time job. Since families looking for a tutor generally have children over the age of eight, it means less physical exertion for you. The younger children are, the more active they can be.  A job as a tutor requires no physical exertion as it requires you to sit down and work in comfort.

Retail

Many retail stores looking for employees, specifically seek out seniors since they’re often looking for part-time work. Working in retail often requires minimal to no experience, and can be a great way to expose yourself more to whatever you’re passionate about. For example, if you love all things art, you could work in an art store.

Whereas if you love animals, working in a pet shop could be perfect. Whatever your interests and hobbies are, chances are there’s a store that would be a great fit. Since retail requires working on a team, it’s also a great opportunity to make new friends if you’d like to be more social.

Pet Sitter

Many families have animals that need to be looked after while they’re at work or away on a trip. These usually pay well, and in many cases only require you to spend time with the animal and feed and walk them. If you get a good reputation amongst pet owners, you could find yourself with a considerable amount of work, as most people are only willing to hire someone based on recommendations.
