Gandhinagar, 11 March 2022: Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Gandhinagar, an Institute of National Importance, has announced PhD Admission for Semester I 2022-23. Regular(RR) and Continuing Doctoral Programme (CDP) are available.

Students joining the PhD program as regulars (RR) will be considered for Institute Fellowship based on the Ministry of Education norms.

Minimum Eligibility Conditions:

At least 55% marks or 5.5 CPI marks in M.A./M.Sc./B.Tech./M.Tech. or equivalent degree in appropriate branches. Above mentioned eligibility criteria is minimum at Institute level. For discipline wise minimum eligibility criteria, the candidates should refer the PhD Admission Page of IIT Gandhinagar.

Discipline Minimum Eligibility Criteria in AY 22-23 Sem-I

BIOLOGICAL

ENGINEERING

At least 60% marks (55% for SC/ST/PD) or 6.0 (5.5 for SC/ST/PD) CPI/CGPA on the

scale of 10 in: MSc (Biosciences / Biochemistry / Chemistry / Zoology / Botany);

BTech/MTech (Biochemical / Biotechnology / Bioinformatics / Biophysics /

Biomaterials / Biomedical Engineering) or equivalent degree and related programs.

 

CHEMICAL

ENGINEERING

First Class or 60% marks (55% for SC/ST/PD) or 6.0 (5.5 for SC/ST/PD) CPI/CGPA

on the scale of 10 in: BE/BTech/ME/MTech or equivalent degree in Chemical

Engineering OR related branches of Engineering.

 

CHEMISTRY At least 60% marks (55% for SC/ST/PD) or 6.0 (5.5 for SC/ST/PD) CPI/CGPA on the

scale of 10 in: MSc (Inorganic Chemistry/Analytical Chemistry/ Organic Chemistry/

General Chemistry/ Physical Chemistry/ Biochemistry/ Bioinformatics/ Computational

Biology/ Applied Chemistry) or equivalent degree and related programs. Applicants

must have qualified NET /GATE examination not before 2020.

 

CIVIL ENGINEERING First Class or 60% marks (55% for SC/ST/PD) or 6.0 (5.5 for SC/ST/PD) CPI/CGPA

on the scale of 10 in: BE/BTech/ME/MTech or equivalent degree in Civil Engineering

or closely related field.

 

COGNITIVE SCIENCE 60% (55% for SC/ST/PD) or 6.0 (5.5 for SC/ST/PD) CPI/CGPA on the scale of 10 in

BTech/MTech/MSc or equivalent OR 55% (50% for SC/ST/PD) or 5.5 (5.0 for

SC/ST/PD) CPI/CGPA on the scale of 10 in: MA or equivalent

 

COMPUTER SCIENCE

AND ENGINEERING

BE/BTech/MTech/ME/MS or equivalent degree in CS/EC/EE/related areas with 65%

marks (60% for SC/ST/PD) or 6.5 (6.0 for SC/ST/PD) CPI/CGPA on the scale of 10

OR MSc in Mathematics/Physics/Bioinformatics or related areas with 1st class or

65% marks (60% for SC/ST/PD) or 6.5 (6.0 for SC/ST/PD) CPI/CGPA on the scale of

10 and strong interest in computer science and engineering.

 

HUMANITIES AND

SOCIAL SCIENCES

55% (50% for SC/ST) or 5.5 (5.0 for SC/ST/PD) CPI/CGPA on the scale of 10 in: MA

or equivalent. OR 60% (55% for SC/ST/PD) or 6.0 (5.5 for SC/ST) CPI/CGPA on the

scale of 10 in BTech/MTech/MSc or equivalent.

 

EARTH SCIENCES MSc (Geology, Geophysics, Remote Sensing, Geography, natural sciences or

related subjects) with 60% marks (55% for SC/ST/PD) or a CPI/CGPA of 6.0 (5.5 for

SC/ST/PD) out of 10. Must be CSIR-NET, INSPIRE fellowship or GATE qualified OR

M.Tech./M.Phil. (Geology, Earth Sciences, Geophysics, Environmental Sciences,

Remote Sensing/GIS/Geomatics, Hydrology, Civil Engineering or related subjects)

with 60% marks (55% for SC/ST/PD) / CPI/CGPA of 6.0 (5.5 for SC/ST/PD) out of

10.

 

ELECTRICAL

ENGINEERING

First Class or 65% marks (60% for SC/ST/PD) or 6.5(6.0 for SC/ST/PD) CPI/CGPA

on the scale of 10 in: BE/BTech/ME/MTech or Equivalent degree in the broad area of

Electrical and/or Electronics engineering, OR BE/BTech/ME/MTech or Equivalent

degree in other branches of Engineering may be considered in areas consistent with

the research areas of the discipline, OR MSc in disciplines consistent with the

research areas of the discipline.

 

MECHANICAL

ENGINEERING

First Class or 60% marks (55% for SC/ST/PD) or 6.0 (5.5 for SC/ST/PD) CPI/CGPA

on the scale of 10 in:

BE/BTech/ME/MTech/MS or equivalent degree in Mechanical Engineering

OR

BE/BTech/ME/MTech/MS degree or equivalent in Chemical Engineering/Electrical

and/or Electronics Engineering/ Production Engineering/Industrial Engineering

and/or Design/ Aerospace and/or Aeronautical Engineering/ Civil and/or Structural

Engineering/ Instrumentation and Control/ Metallurgical and/or Materials

Engineering/ Engineering Physics/Applied Mechanics/ Ocean Engineering and/or

Naval Architecture/ Engineering Design/ Biotechnology and/or Bio Engineering/

Energy Science and Engineering/ Nuclear Engineering/ Polymer Science and/or

Engineering/ Textile Engineering/

OR

MSc or equivalent degree in Physics/Mathematics with valid NET/GATE.

OR

BE/BTech/ME/MTech/MS/MSc Degree in other branches of

Engineering/Technology/Sciences with an outstanding academic record may also be

considered for research areas consistent with their academic background and

special interests of the discipline.

MATERIALS

ENGINEERING

First Class or 60% marks (55% for SC/ST/PD) or 6.0 (5.5 for SC/ST/PD) CPI/CGPA

on the scale of 10 in: B.E. / B. Tech. / M. Tech. / M.S. or equivalent degree in

Materials Science / Materials Engineering / Metallurgical Engineering / Mechanical

Engineering / Manufacturing Engineering / Polymer Engineering / Ceramic

Engineering / Biological Engineering / Chemical Engineering / Electrical Engineering

/ Electronics Engineering / Physics / Chemistry / Biotechnology / Nanotechnology /

Food science or any other related program.

OR

BE/BTech/ME/MTech/MS/MSc Degree in other branches of

Engineering/Technology/Sciences with an outstanding academic record may also be

considered for research areas consistent with their academic background and

special interests of the discipline.

 

MATHEMATICS M.A./M.Sc. in Mathematics with at least First Class or 60% marks (55% for

SC/ST/PD) or 6.0 (5.5 for SC/ST/PD) CPI/CGPA on the scale of 10 OR BE/BTech

with at least 60% (55% for SC/ST/PD) or 6.0 (5.5 for SC/ST) CPI/CGPA will be

considered.

 

PHYSICS MSc (in Physics, Applied Physics, Mathematics, Statistics, Comp. Science), BS-MS /

Integrated MSc in Physics / Engg. Physics / Mathematics and MTech (in related

areas of Physics) or BE / BTech / BS in Engineering Physics with 60% marks (55%

for SC/ST/PD) or a CPI/CGPA of 6.0 out of 10.0 (5.5/10.0 for SC/ST/PD candidates).

Applicants must have qualified NET (Physics)/ GATE(Physics)/ JEST(Physics)

examination.

Selection Procedure:  Admission is generally offered on the basis of an interview, which is supplemented by a written test if necessary. The Institute will invite a limited number of candidates for a written test and/or interview based on the academic records, statement of purpose, etc. The final selection will be mainly based on academic credentials, written test and/or interview.

Fellowship Benefits:  

Students joining the Ph.D. program as regulars (RR) may be considered for the Institute Fellowship (subjected to availability of fund) based on the following norms:

Candidates with qualifications in any of the points (a-f) mentioned below are eligible for a monthly fellowship of Rs. 31,000/-.

a). Post Graduate Degree in Basic Science with NET/GATE Qualification or Graduate Degree in Professional Courses (B.Tech/B.E.) with NET/GATE Qualification or Postgraduate Degree in Professional Courses (M.Tech/M.E. etc)

b). BTech degree from a CFTI (Centrally Funded Technical Institute) with CPI at least 8.0 (on a scale of 10).

c). MSc/MA from IITs with CPI at least 8.0 (on a scale of 10)

d). BS from IISc with CPI at least 6.4 (on a scale of 8)

e). BS-MS from IISERs with CPI at least 8.0 (on a scale of 10)

f). BS from IISERs with CPI at least 8.0 (on a scale of 10)
