New Delhi, 05 March 2021:  The National Testing Agency has extended the application portal for UGC NET December 2020 Cycle (May 2021) Examination for Junior Research Fellowship and eligibility for Assistant Professor. The last date for submission of online application form, has been extended from 02 March 2021 to 09 March 2021.

The NTA will conduct the next UGC-NET exam for Junior Research Fellowship and eligibility for Assistant Professor on 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 10, 11, 12, 14 and 17 May 2021.

The UGC-National Eligibility Test (NET) is one of the toughest competitive exams in India.  Previously, NTA conducted the UGC-NET, June 2020 Examination in Computer Based Test (CBT) mode between 24 September and 13 November, 2020 for 8,60,976 registered candidates, covering 81 subjects in 12 examination days with two shifts each examination day amid COVID 19 Pandemic.

Students or applicants now have just two months to prepare the test. Here, SkillOutlook presents the key points of exam pattern and composition of UGC-NET May 2021, which are mentioned in the Information Bulletin of the Test.  Hence, the candidates can better understand the pattern and fine-tune their exam preparation.

Mode of Examination: The Examination shall be conducted as Computer Based Test (CBT) only.

Pattern: The Test will consist of two papers. Both the papers will consist of objective type, multiple choice questions. There will be no break between papers.

The total duration of the test is 03 hours (180 minutes) without any break. All the questions are compulsory.

Paper I: The questions in Paper I intends to assess the teaching/ research aptitude of the candidate. It will primarily be designed to test reasoning ability, reading comprehension, divergent thinking and general awareness of the candidate.

The total questions will be 50. Each question will carry two marks. Hence, the total marks assigned to Paper I is 100.

Paper II: This is based on the subject selected by the candidate and will assess domain knowledge. The total questions will be 100. Each question will carry two marks. Hence, the total marks assigned to Paper I is 200.

There is no negative marking for incorrect response. No marks will be given for questions Unanswered/Marked for Review.

If a question is found to be incorrect/ambiguous during the key challenge, only those candidates who have attempted the question and chosen one of the correct answer would be given the credit. Only for dropped question(s), if any, marks will be given to all the candidates.

The candidates may note that the syllabus has been modified and the new syllabus applicable from June 2019 onwards has also been notified through a public notice on NTA website.

The number of candidates to be qualified (total slots or Eligibility for Assistant Professor) shall be equal to 6% of the candidates appeared in both the papers of NET.

The total slots shall be allocated to different categories as per the reservation policy of Government of India.

In order to be considered for ‘JRF and Eligibility for Assistant Professor’ and for ‘Assistant Professor’, the candidate must have appeared in both the papers and secured at least 40% aggregate marks in both the papers taken together for General (Unreserved) category candidates and at least 35% aggregate marks in both the papers taken together for all candidates belonging to the following reserved categories (viz., SC, ST, OBC (belonging to Non-Creamy Layer, PwD and Transgender).

The NTA has uploaded Mock Test for UGC-NET  Exam on the official website of NTA’s UGC-NET.

In December 2019 Cycle, the NTA conducted the UGC-NET Examination from 02 to 06 December 2019 for 10,34,872 candidates, covering 81 subjects. A total number of 7,93,813 candidates appeared the UGC NET Dec 2019.
