Bhopal, 24 March 2026: Indian Institute of Science Education and Research (IISER), Bhopal, an Institute of National Importance, has released PhD Admission for August 2026.
Research Areas:
Natural Sciences Stream: Biological Sciences, Chemistry, Earth and Environmental Sciences, Physics.
Engineering Sciences Stream: Chemical Engineering, Electrical Engineering & Computer Science, Data Science and Engineering, Electrical Engineering and Computer Science (EECS).
Humanities and Social Sciences Stream: Economic Sciences, Humanities and Social Sciences (Cognitive Science, Social Work and Sociology).
Integrated PhD: Mathematics and Physics
General Eligibility Criteria
- a) Minimum Educational Qualification with National Qualify Exam.
(4-years) Bachelor’s degree in Science/Engineering/Technology, or
Master’s or equivalent degree in science, or
Master’s or equivalent degree in Arts/Commerce (or allied subjects)
For qualifying degree at mentioned above candidates must also fulfil anyone of the following additional requirements below:
Valid GATE score
Selected through National Eligibility Test – UGC NET /CSIR/NBHM etc. including lectureship (Assistant Professorship)
Selected through a National level examination conducted by MHRD or its agencies /Institutions such as UGC/ IIT/IISER/IISc./IIIT etc.
Selected to appear in the NBHM PhD scholarship interview after having qualified the written exam in 2026. However, in order to gain admission, candidates must fulfil at least one of the requirements mentioned in Points a. – c. above.
- b) Minimum Educational Qualification Without National Qualify Exam.
Integrated M.Tech (5 Year’s Degree)
Those with B.Tech. from IITs or BS-MS from IISERs with CGPA/CPI more than 8.0 on a 10 point scale.
(4-years) B.Tech/BE with (2-Years) M.Tech/ME (4+2 Years)
In addition to general eligibility criterion, the applicants must also satisfy the eligibility criteria specified for the respective Departments. The department may also impose additional screening criteria if the number of applications are higher.

Fellowship
All selected candidates will be eligible to receive JRF fellowship as per the funding agency/Institue norms, in vogue.
Selection Procedure
Shortlisted candidates will be called for an interview. Date of interview will be communicated to shortlisted candidates by e-mail and the same will be available on the Institute website.
TA will be paid to SC/ST candidates appearing for the interview as per Govt. of India norms.
