Mumbai, 13 June 2020:  IIT Bombay formally took charge of the organization of GATE 2021 Today  (13 June 2020). IIT Bombay host a meeting of all IITs and IISc to discuss the future course of GATE exams.

In the virtual meeting directors of all IITs and IISc participated and discussed on the current uncertainties due to Covid pandemic and its possible impact on the proposed GATE 2021 Exam in February 2021.

Prof. Subhasis Chaudhuri,  Director of IIT Bombay, said “ Although there may be some uncertainties currently due to Covid pandemic, we hope that the situation will all clear up soon so that we can have the tests in February 2021.”

He said that IIT Bombay also explore how more opportunities can be created for graduating students of India.  “We shall also explore if we can include some more subjects in which the students can write exams “, the Director added.

 GATE office of IIT Bombay headed by Deepankar Choudhury, M. Aslam and Upendra Bhandarkar will deliver periodic update on GATE 2021.

GATE 2020: IIT Delhi was the organizing institute for GATE 2020.  Around 18.8% candidates qualified in Graduate Aptitude Test in Engineering (GATE)  2020. The pass percent of GATE 2020 is higher than the pass percentage of average of past three years – 15-17%.

More than 8.58 lakh candidates registered Graduate Aptitude Test in Engineering (GATE) 2020 Exam.  A total of 6.85 Lakh, 79.76% of registered candidates, appeared in eight sessions at 566 centres across 199 cities. Out of 6.85 Lakh candidates, nearly 18.8% have qualified in GATE 2020.

GATE 2020 saw a fall in number of candidates registered to appear the test as the last three year average of candidates registered for GATE is nearly 9.50 Lakh.

More About GATE:  Graduate Aptitude Test in Engineering (GATE) is an examination conducted jointly by the Indian Institute of Science (IISc), Bangalore and the seven Indian Institutes of Technology (at Bombay, Delhi, Guwahati, Kanpur, Kharagpur, Madras and Roorkee) on behalf of the National Coordination Board (NCB)-GATE, Department of Higher Education, Ministry of Human Resource Development (MHRD), Government of India.

Qualifying in GATE is a mandatory requirement for seeking admission and/or financial assistance to: (i) Master’s programs and direct Doctoral programs in Engineering/Technology/Architecture and (ii) Doctoral programs in relevant branches of Science, in the institutions supported by the MHRD and other Government agencies. Even in some colleges and institutions, which admit students without MHRD scholarship/assistantship, the GATE qualification is mandatory. Further, many Public Sector Undertakings (PSUs) have been using the GATE score in their recruitment process.
