Guwahati, 26  September 2021: Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Guwahati, an Institute of National Importance, has announced Special Admission for PhD Programme under CSIR/UGC JRF Scheme.

The institute invites applications from the eligible candidates who have valid JRF award letter through CSIR/UGC NET for Special Admission into PhD Programme under Regular (Full-Time) category for October 2021 session.

List of Disciplines with Vacant Seats:

Biosciences and Bioengineering                -10

Chemistry-20

Physics -15

Total: 45 Seats

Key Dates:

Application Submission Process Starts on: 25 September 2021 (10 am)

Application Submission Process Ends on: 18 October 2021 (5 pm)

Eligibility Conditions:

In addition to meeting the minimum eligibility criteria for the respective disciplines as specified in the following, candidates must have a valid JRF award letter through CSIR/UGC NET (with at least 6 months’ remaining for validity at the time of submission of application).

In the following, Cumulative Performance Index (CPI) critera is given on 10 point scale.

Eligibility Requirement for Applying to PhD Programme in the Department of Biosciences and Bioengineering

Any one of the following Master’s degrees with a minimum CPI of 6.0 or 60% marks:

 

Master’s degree in Engineering/Technology/Medical Sciences/Veterinary Sciences/Pharmacy in a relevant area.

Two-year Master’s degree (after completion of 4-year Bachelor’s degree) or three-year Master’s degree (after completion of 3-year Bachelor’s degree) in Engineering/ Technology/Science in a relevant area.

Two-year MSc degree (after completion of 3-year Bachelor’s degree) in a relevant area.

OR

Four-year Bachelor’s degree in Engineering/Technology/Medical Sciences or equivalent in a relevant area with a minimum CPI of 7.0 or 70% of marks.

Eligibility Requirement for Applying to PhD Programme in the Department of Chemistry and the Department of Physics

Master’s degree in Engineering/ Technology/ Design/ Science in a relevant area with a minimum CPI of either 6.0 or 60% of marks.

OR

Four-year Bachelor’s degree in a related area in Engineering/ Technology/ Design/ Science in a relevant area with a minimum CPI of 7.0 or 70% of marks.

Relaxation for SC/ST/PwD Candidates: Eligibility criteria will be relaxed by 5% marks or 0.5 CPI for SC/ST/PwD applicants

Studentship Category: Candidates under this special admissions will be selected for Regular category only. They will be working on full-time basis.

Financial Assistance: The students admitted under this scheme will receive the fellowship from the respective funding agency (CSIR/UGC) as per its governing rules and subject to satisfactory academic progress and satisfactory performance in assigned teaching assistant duty. No request from these will be entertained for financial assistance in any form from IITG under any circumstances during the entire period of the Ph.D. programme.
