Ahmedabad, 29 October 2020: National Institute of Design (NID), an Institute of National Importance under Ministry of Commerce & Industry, has announced PhD Admission in Design for 2020-21. Both Full Time (3 Years) and Part Time (Five Years) PhD Programmes are available. Fellowships are available for Full Time PhD Programmes.
The PhD programme in Design shall include the following priority areas this year: Design Education (e.g., pedagogy, design for schools), Design Innovation (e.g., in Railways), Social Innovation (e.g., crafts and culture), and Design Practice.
Key Dates: The closing date for submission of application is 02 November 2020.
Selection Process: PhD programme in Design will be granted on the basis of a three-stage selection process: Eligibility & research Proposal; Design Research Test (DRT); and Interview.
Detailed schedule for conducting DRT will be announced in the third week of November 2020.
Eligibility:
To be eligible for selection to the PhD programme, the candidate must be a citizen of India and hold at least one of the following qualifications:
a) A Master’s level qualification3 in Design,
OR
b) A Bachelor’s level qualification4 in Design from NID, with a minimum of 3 years of professional or teaching experience
OR
c) Master’ s degree in Philosophy (eg, M.Phil) in Design
OR
d) Successful completion of Faculty Development Programme of NID or of a similar program for the Design field of at least two years from any other recognised University.
For institutes other than NID, the expected performance in the qualifying degree program is – 55% marks in aggregate, or – grade ‘B’ in the UGC 7-point scale, or – an equivalent grade in other scales.
The maximum number of seats for the PhD programme is 13.
