New Delhi: The impact of technology depends on user’s mindset, technology used with positive mindset will yield positive results. This was stated by Mr Bandaru Dattatreya, the Union Minister of State (Independent Charge), Ministry of Labour and Employment while delivering inaugural address at Technology and the Future of Work conference here today (29 November 2016). The Minister said the technology in itself is neither good nor bad, it is the mindset with which it is used that decides its’ impact.

The minister opined that for India, the need of hour is good governance and for that accountability and transparency are required which can be ensured through technology. Weather one changes or not, time will change, he added. Technology is must and it is bringing revolution along with some challenges.

Mr Dattatreya further said that thinking, attitude and needs of younger generation in India are different and need to be addressed. The ease with which this generation uses technology indicates that India is going to be the most competitive country in field of technology.

The Special Event on ‘Technology and the Future of Work’ was organized jointly by the Ministry of Labour and Employment, ILO and VVGNLI. The Speakers and panelists at the programme discussed in detail how technology affects and supports human life specially in context of job creation and destruction; its impact on direction and quality of human life.

While Prof. Dev Nathan, Indian Institute for Human Development and Prof. Prabhu Mohapatra, University of Delhi delivered keynote addresses, Representatives of Bhartiy Mazdoor Sangh, Confederation of Indian Industry, Apparel Export Promotion Council, NITI Aayog and young entrepreneur presented their views on the topic and took questions from the audience.
