Bangalore: Indian Institute of Science (IISc), India’s top ranked educational institute, has announced the admissions to the following programmes for the year 2017: Course programme (M Tech/M Des); Course programme (M Mgt); Sponsored Course programme (M Tech); Research programme – Doctoral (PhD) and Master’s (M Tech [Res]; PhD (Integrated) programme in Biological, Chemical, Mathematical and Physical Sciences disciplines; and External Registration programme (ERP) – PhD.
The submission of online application will start from 01 February 2017 through the official website of IISc Bangalore. Last date for online submission of applications is 24 March 2017. As per the admission notification, the last date for updating the following NET Results online (joint CSIR-UGC NET for JRF/UGC NET for JRF/ICMR-JRF/ DBT-JRF / JEST) is 17 April 2017.
Department offering PhD/MTech (Research) progarmme: The following departments of IISc offer MTech (Res) or PhD programmes:
Aerospace Engineering (AE) – M Tech (Res)/PhD
Astronomy and Astrophysics (AP) – PhD
Atmospheric and Oceanic Sciences (AS) – M Tech (Res)/PhD
Biochemistry (BC) – PhD
Biosystems Science and Engineering (BE) – PhD (Interdisciplinary program)
Chemical Engineering (CH) – M Tech (Res)/PhD
Civil Engineering (CE) – M Tech (Res)/PhD
Computer Data Science – Computational Data Science (CD-CP) – M Tech (Res)/PhD
Computer Data Science – Computer Systems (CD-CS) – M Tech (Res)/PhD
Eligibility for research programme (M Tech (Res)/PhD):
The following categories of candidates are eligible to apply for admission to the research programme, subject to satisfying requirements detailed in the subsequent sections:
(a) Master’s degree or its equivalent in any branch of Science/ Mathematics/ Statistics/Computer Applications with valid GATE Score/ NET-JRF/NBHM/ JEST/ INSPIRE (for PhD).
(b) Master’s degree in Pharmacy/ Veterinary Science/ Agriculture/ Humanities (including MBBS) or Master’s degree or its equivalent in Engineering/ Technology/ Architecture without valid GATE Score/ NET-JRF / GPAT (but qualifying in these appropriate tests is desirable prior to their Master’s).
(c) Bachelor’s degree or its equivalent in Engineering/Technology/Architecture/Biotechnology/ Pharmacy/ Veterinary Science/ Agriculture or Graduates of 4-year Bachelor of Science programmes with valid GATE Score/ NET-JRF/ JEST.
(d) Bachelor’s degree holders in Physics/ Chemistry/ Mathematics/ Statistics/ Computer Science /Electronics followed by qualifications obtained through examinations conducted by professional societies recognised by UPSC/AICTE as being equivalent to a Bachelor’s degree in Engineering with valid GATE Score/ NET-JRF/ JEST.
(e) MBA or its equivalent subsequent to BE/B Tech, for admission to the department of Management Studies without valid GATE Score/ NET-JRF (but qualifying in these appropriate tests is desirable prior to their Master’s).
(f) Bachelor’s degree or its equivalent in Engineering/ Technology from any centrally funded technical institutions without valid GATE Score, provided they secured a minimum CGPA of 8.5 out of 10 or its equivalent at the end of (1) seventh semester (those in 8th semester); (2) eighth semester (those already completed).
The admission notification informed that wherever qualifying in one of the following appropriate national tests is indicated such Score/Certificate should be within the validity as on 1 August 2017 is mandatory: CSIR-UGC NET for JRF; or UGC-NET for JRF; or DBT JRF; or ICMR JRF; or JEST 2017; or NBHM Screening Test 2017; or GATE 2015/2016/2017 or INSPIRE fellows (for PhD).
