Thiruvananthapuram: The Indian Institute of Space Science and Technology (IIST), Thiruvananthapuram, a Deemed to be University and an autonomous body under Department of Space (DOS), has announced admission to the following undergraduate and dual-degree programmes for the academic year 2017-18: 4-Year B.Tech Programme in Aerospace Engineering (60 seats); 4-Year B.Tech Programme in Avionics (60 seats);  and 5-Year Dual Degree (BTech and MS/MTech) Programme (20 Seats).

The IIST admission announcement informed that candidates wishing to join the above programmes must appear for JEE (Advanced) 2017 conducted by Indian Institutes of Technology (IITs). IIST Admission Rank list will be generated only for those candidates who register online for admission to IIST and satisfy all the eligibility criteria. IIST Admission Rank list will be prepared based on their JEE(Advanced)-2017 All-India Rank(including category rank). As per the admission announcement, the IIST admission web portal for online registration will be open from 22 May 2017, up to 12 June 2017. The IIST Admission counselling will be conducted during the fourth week of June 2017.

Here, it can be mentioned that IIST provides financial assistance funded by the Department of Space (DoS, Government of India) for students admitted to UG (BTech and dual degree) programmes. The assistanceship (per semester basis) covers the expenses viz. Tuition fee, Students Amenity fee, hostel and dining charges, Establishment charges and medical expenses.

IIST was formed in 2007 and is functioning from the 100 acre campus at Valiamala. IIST offers a range of academic programmes, namely BTech, and MTech/MS, doctoral and post- doctoral programmes in areas related to Aerospace Engineering, Avionics, Astronomy & Astrophysics, Chemistry, Earth System Sciences, Humanities, Mathematics, Physics and Remote Sensing, with specific focus on space science and technology.
