Mumbai: Whatever rankings are assigned by international rating agencies or government sponsored national institutional ranking framework (NIRF), the ultimate selection of IIT Top Rank holders to take final admission into IITs matters a lot. This reflects the perception of students and their parents about the institutes in true sense. A significant number of JEE Advanced Top 1000 Rank holders opted for IIT Bombay. Other top choices of Top 1000 rank holders were as followed: IIT Delhi (2), IIT Kanpur (3), IIT and Kharagpur (4).
262 students of JEE Advanced Top 1000 Rank holders selected IIT Bombay compared to 272 last years as their destination. While 196 top rank holders opted for IIT New Delhi (2nd most choice), IIT Kanpur was placed at number third with 167 students selecting it. While IIT Kharagpur stood at 4th position as 106 top ranked students chose it, IIT Madras was number five choice for top ranked students as 103 rank holders selected it.
The choices of JEE Advanced Top 1000 rank holders give a broader outlook on the pattern of perception of the students and parents about institutes. Among the Top Ranks 100, around two-third students (67) made their final destination to IIT Bombay this year.
IIT Guwahati (55 rank holders), Roorkee (43), BHU Varanasi (38), Hyderabad (19), were the other top choices of top 1000 ranked students.
While none of the new IITs figured in the list of to 1000 rankers last year, some new IITs including Gandhinagar, Ropar, Indore and IIT Jodhpur attracted few students this year.
