New Delhi: At the first day of 12th edition of FICCI’s Higher Education Summit on 10 November 2016, the winners of 3rd FICCI Higher Education Excellence Awards were declared and felicitated. VIT University, Vellore was crowned as the University of the Year (In existence for more than 30 years) while NMIMS, Mumbai bagged University of the Year (In existence for 10 to 30 years) and Shiv Nadar University won University of the Year (In existence for less than 10 years) Award.
In the award ceremony, two towering personalities in the education filed were honoured: Lifetime Achievement Award-2016 to Dr Raghunath Anant Mashelkar (former Director-General of Council of Scientific and Industrial Research, India) and Personality of the year Award- 2016 to Dr Ashok Jhunjhunwala (Professor, Electrical Engineering, Indian Institute of Technology Madras).
FICCI Higher Education Excellence Awards were instituted in the year 2014 to recognize and honor the achievements and excellent work done by institutions and individuals in improving the quality of Higher Education in India. NIT Trichy won Awards in two categories: Excellence in Employability and Visionary Idea while Thapar University grabbed two Awards: Excellence in Enabling Research and Excellence in Faculty categories. Coimbatore based Amrita University emerged winner in the Excellence in Technology category while Manipal University, Manipal bagged Excellence in Internationalization Award.
Excellence in Institutional Social Responsibility Award went to Institute of Chemical Technology, Mumbai. Also, Bhubaneswar based KIIT University got Special Jury Recognition in excellence in institutional social responsibility.
Dr Arvind Panagariya, Vice Chariman, NITI Aayog delivered the speech as the Chief Guest of Award Function. Mr T V Mohandas Pai, Chairman – Manipal Global Education Services, was Guest of Honour of the Award Ceremony.
