New Delhi: The University Grants Commission has added Yoga as a new subject in the UGC- National Eligibility Test (NET). The UGC has published the syllabus of Yoga as a new subject for the upcoming NET exam January 2017. The next UGC-NET exam will be held on 22 January 2017 as the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) had notified earlier. Detailed notification on the UGC-NET Jan 2017 exam will be published by 15 October 2016.
In the previous NET examination held on 10 July 2016, there were 83 subjects. On behalf of UGC, CBSE conducts NET for determining the eligibility of Indian nationals for the Eligibility for Assistant Professor only or Junior Research Fellowship & Eligibility for Assistant Professor Both in Indian universities and colleges.
With growing popularity of Yoga among different sections of society and the government’s increased focus on education, research and development for Yoga, the UGC has included Yoga as a new subject in the NET exam, which will meet growing demand for qualified Yoga teachers. The syllabus of Yoga for NET Examination of UGC covers the following subject areas:
Foundations of Yoga : History, Evolution of Yoga and Schools of Yoga
Basic Yoga Texts : Principal Upanishads Bhagavad Gita, Yoga Vasishtha
Patanjala Yoga Sutra

and Counseling
