Navi Mumbai:  Learning innovative management techniques from Bollywood movies is the theme of Buzz Word segment of The Mumbai Chapter of Learning and Development (L &D) Global August monthly meet. What makes an organization desirable – was the subject of key note speech delivered by Mr. M Lakshmanan, Head – Talent Management and Total Rewards at Larsen & Toubro Limited.  While Mr Prashant Sawant, Global Training Group, presented the Buzz Word session drawing examples from movies such as Sholay and Trishul on management and business acumen perspectives.

The Mumbai Chapter of Learning and Development (L &D) conducted its 10th monthly meet yesterday  (13 August 2016) at  SIESCOMS Auditorium, Sector 5, Nerul, Navi Mumbai. In the first session, Mr Sawant’s show on management lessons from bollywood has enthralled the audience. In his typical style he coined the word BQ (Bollywood quotient /Intelligent) and how bollywood movies are a great source of management learning. Mr Sawant gave example of some scenes of Sholay and Trishul movie that capture the whole business cycle and different entrepreneur skills.

Mr Sawant’s brain storming session on Trishul movie, directed by Yash Chopra and produced by Gulshan Rai in 1978, was widely appreciated by audience. The scene of the movie – how Mr Vijay (Amitabh Bachchan) met first time the big industrialist Raj Kumar Gupta (Sanjeev Kumar) after passing through many obstacles – captures the whole business cycle and reflects entrepreneur skills. Mr Sawant explained  this scene – starting from seeing hoarding of RK Gupta Construction & Sons to striking a deal to purchase a disputed land – tells many angels on business acumen and how to venture a new business units.

What makes an organization desirable? Is it reward strategy or employee branding or engaging work environment, or flexi workplace? The answer is different – People are inspired by the cause. Employers have to articulate the cause for which the company is known, said Mr. M Lakshmanan, Head – Talent Management and Total Rewards at Larsen & Toubro Limited. While presenting “What makes an organization desirable”,   Mr. M Lakshmanan explained the techniques played by Google, Apple, Microsoft, StarBucks how they have turned to be a talent magnet.

Mr Lakshmanan also demystified the Tata Group’s strategy to retain and nurture talent. Their values and ethics have significantly contributed to building strong brand among employees. He mentioned that L & T’s leadership and iconic status is the USP of its employer branding strategy. Innovation in people culture and employer branding boosts productivity and increases margins, thereby drives profits.

More than twenty learning and development practitioners attended The Mumbai Chapter of Learning and Development (L &D) August monthly meet. The New Delhi Chapter meet will be held on 20 August 2016 ( Saturday) at Emporia Building A-3/4, Baba Kharak Singh Marg, Connaught Place, New Delhi  (Nearest Metro Station: Rajiv Chowk, Exit Gate No. 7).  Two eminent Keynote Speakers Capt. Shantanu Chakravorty and Dr. Chinu Agrawal will deliver talks.
