Bangalore: Manipal Academy of Higher Education (MAHE), Manipal, a leading deemed to-be university in India, has been accorded the highest rank – ‘A’, by the National Assessment & Accreditation Council (NAAC), Bangalore, recently. This accreditation is valid for five years. NAAC is an autonomous body established by the University Grants Commission (UGC) of India to assess and accredit institutions of higher education in the country.
A NAAC team consisting of 17 academicians, including Vice-Chancellors, Pro-Vice-Chancellors, Directors and Professors visited the Manipal University campuses in Manipal, Mangalore and Bangalore in May 2016 and assessed the university and its constituent units on the basis of pre-defined criteria like curricular aspects, teaching, learning and evaluation, research, consultancy and extension, infrastructure and learning resources, student support and progression, governance, leadership and management and innovations and best practices.
Dr. Ramdas M. Pai, President and Chancellor said, “I am glad the university has secured a NAAC ‘A’ Grade. We have never compromised on the need for maintaining excellent standards and this recognition will inspire our university team to aim for better performances.”
Commenting on the achievement of the institute, Dr. H.Vinod Bhat, the Vice-Chancellor said, “To be categorized ‘A’ by NAAC is a boost in the arm for Manipal in its relentless quest for excellence. We have now set our targets firmly on global ranking and international accreditations. It also opens up several interesting possibilities for future growth of the university.”
“The next two years will see frenetic activities, including the task at hand which is to propel the university into the league table of ‘World Universities’. I am confident that the core values attached to our brand will help us get there,” Dr Bhat said.
