New Delhi, 20 August 2020: As of 2020, there are 155 institutes, declared as Institutes of National Importance under a distinct Act of Parliament. These INIs include IITs, IIMs, NITs, IITs and some Central Universities. These are known for quality and affordable education.
The INIs are dream institutes for PhD aspirants. There are 8 such INIs where PhD Admission.
These institutes include three NITs, two IIITs, one IIITDM, two central universities. These institutes are as followed:

- Malaviya National Institute of Technology (MANIT) Jaipur,
- Dr B R Ambedkar National Institute of Technology, Jalandhar
- Indian Institute of Information Technology, Design and Manufacturing (IIIT DM), Kurnool

Malaviya National Institute of Technology (MANIT) Jaipur, an Institute of National Importance, has called for applications for 2020-21. The PhD Admission is available in 15 departments. National Institute of Technology (NIT), Surathkal, an Institute of National Importance, has called for applications for PhD Programmes 2020-21. Institute’s Fellowships are available. The total PhD intake capacity is 188 for the current session with Institute’s fellowships. The vacant seats are available in 14 departments.
Indian Institute of Information Technology, Lucknow, an Institute of National Importance, announces PhD Admission for September 2020. The PhD Admission is available for the following categories: Self Financed- Full Time Research Scholars; Working Professional; and Aspiring Students in Higher Academics Students in (ASHA): Direct PhD.
Two central universities such as Visva-Bharati University, Shanti Niketan and Allahabad University have opened their PhD Application window. In Visva-Bharati University, the total PhD vacant seats are 338 Seats and 156 Seats for MPhil. In Allahabad University, the total vacant PhD seats are 588 across 41 subjects.
