Bangalore: Vista 2016, the premier business festival of IIM Bangalore, will be held from 23 September to 25 September 2016, with over 40 events across multiple business domains featuring a distinguished lineup of speakers across politics, media and business awaiting them. The three day student fest has lined up the following events: Vista Quiz, Next Big Wave, Build a Stock Portfolio, Microsoft Excel for Business Growth, Trojan Hourse Strategy, Back to the Future and many more.
The following dignitaries are attending the Vista Speaker Series: Rajat Sharma, Chairman and Editor in Chief of India TV, Sachin Pilot, Member of Indian National Congress, TV Mohandas Pai, Chairperson, Manipal Global Education, Derek O’Brien, Member of Parliament and the Trinamool Congress Parliamentary Party Leader in the Rajya Sabha and others. Stephen Paul Fleming, former New Zealand cricketer, one of the most astute minds on the cricket field, kicked off IIM Bangalore’s Vista 2016 pre-launch speaker series with his motivating address to the IIMB fraternity, on September 8, 2016 at the institute.
Stephen Fleming is New Zealand’s second most capped test player with 111 appearances. Fleming has been associated with the Indian Premier League since 2008, as a player initially and then as coach of the Chennai Super Kings and now of the Rising Pune Supergiants. Stephen Fleming, in his capacity as Brand Ambassador for Education New Zealand, highlighted the importance of going against the norm by asking: “What is going to make you stand out from the crowd? What is going to make you different from others? Aspiring young students need to look at life beyond university”.
In this process, “Role models matter a lot”, added Fleming, by giving the example of Brendon Mccullum’s efforts in the development of sports in New Zealand. Narrating anecdotes from his experiences in the cricketing domain, Fleming cited planning, tactics, communication and coaching as critical requirements of a good captain in the sporting arena as well as a leader in the business world. Stressing the importance of commitment during decision-making for a leader, he said: “Sometimes there is no right or wrong. One just has to stay committed to a decision and work with it to the fullest”. Concluding his address, Stephen Fleming urged the future young leaders of India to ‘Think Big’. “You need to make yourself uncomfortable and challenge yourself”, he added.
Students from across India are looking forward to the action-packed three days of Vista to be held from September 23 to September 25, 2016. The theme of this year’s event is ThinkEast.
