IIM Ranchi hosted the Consul General of France in Kolkata, Mr. Didier Talpain, on 7th June 2023 in the permanent campus. He interacted with faculty members and students of the Institute in the presence of the Director, Prof. Deepak Kumar Srivastava. Mr. Talpain said that he was on his first ever visit to the state of Jharkhand.
Opening the interaction, the Consul General stressed on the cooperation and MoUs that the French government aims to build with various Indian institutions. He emphasised that three business schools from France already have MoUs with IIM Ranchi, which had students in previous years as part of the student exchange programme. Mr. Talpain focused on the excellent Indo-French cooperation at the government level with the Indian Prime Minister, Shri Narendra Modi being the guest of honour in the Bastille Day celebrations in Paris later this year.
Prof. Srivastava, on his part, focused on the cultural dimensions in the exchange of faculty members from both countries. He expects that as IIM Ranchi is now fully equipped to host foreign faculty, professors from France shall bring in research collaboration in addition to classroom teaching and collaborative guidance to PhD students. IIM Ranchi has been planning for potential dual degree programmes in association with business schools from France, which the Director also pointed out. On the question of teaching and promoting French language in IIM Ranchi posed by the Consul General, Prof. Srivastava mentioned that the students in IIM Ranchi are already having a course in French language. French seems to be the topmost priority among all foreign languages among the students of IIM Ranchi.
