Mumbai:  The Tata Memorial Centre (TMC),  an autonomous Grant-in-aid Institution of the Department of Atomic Energy based in Mumbai, has invited applications for awarding Junior Research Fellowships (JRF 2017) for PhD in Life Sciences. The TMC offers PhD Program in Life Sciences and is affiliated to the Homi Bhabha National Institute (Deemed University).

The closing date for submission of online application is 28 April 2017. Application fee is Rs 500/- (no fee for Female, SC/ST, and Physically Handicapped (PH) Candidates). Monthly fellowship stipend of Rs 25,000/- (additional HRA benefits as per conditions) will be paid to all the PhD candidates.

Eligibility Conditions:  M.Sc. (Applied Biology /Biochemistry /Bioinformatics /Biophysics /Biotechnology /Botany /Life Sciences /Microbiology /Molecular Biology/Zoology or related Biological Sciences) / M. Tech (Bioinformatics/Biotechnology); M.V.Sc.; M. Pharm from a recognized University, with 60% aggregate marks.

TMC has informed that those awaiting results may also apply. Candidates having Post-graduation course of only one-year duration are not eligible.

TMC includes basic and translational research in Cancer Biology. TMC informed through the advertisement that that Specific research topics include study of cell proliferation, differentiation, apoptosis, metastasis, tumor immunology, molecular imaging, carcinogenesis, stem cell biology, biophysics, structural biology, bioinformatics, proteomics, genomics, genetics, epigenetics and glycobiology.

Selection Process: The TMC said that a list of eligible candidates will be called for written examination, which will be displayed on the official website of ACTREC.  An ‘objective type’ Written Exam will be held at Bharati Vidyapeeth’s Institute of Technology, opposite Kharghar Station, Sector 7, Belpada, CBD, Navi Mumbai-400614, on Sunday 28th May 2017 at 09.30 am.

For Students who have qualified in National Level Written Entrance Tests:

Candidates who have valid Junior Research Fellowships from CSIR/ UGC/ ICMR/ DBT or other recognized agencies – obtained after appearing for a written entrance test, will be called for direct interview at ACTREC .  They must apply online.

Candidates who have applied online but have received external fellowship intimation after 28th April 2017 must send proof of the award by e-mail (jrf2017@actrec.gov.in) to seek direct interview dates

The list of candidates shortlisted for direct interview based on their performance in the Joint Graduate Entrance Examination for Biology and Interdisciplinary Life Sciences is displayed on the ACTREC website

Candidates in this list who are interested in ACTREC’s Ph.D. program must apply online.

The Tata Memorial Centre (TMC) is an autonomous Grant-in-aid Institution of the Department of Atomic Energy. The TMC is comprised of the Advanced Centre for Treatment, Research and Education in Cancer (ACTREC) and the Tata Memorial Hospital (TMH).
