New Delhi: The HRD ministry has deferred the decision to hike the MTech fee in all IITs. The Ministry has not mentioned any reason for deferring the fee hike and will discussion further on the issue.
It can mentioned that in September 2019, the HRD Ministry announced the fee hike in MTech courses after the IIT Council, the apex decision making body of all 23 IITs, had passed the proposal.
The IIT Council, led by HRD Minister Ramesh Pokhriyal “Nishank”, had given green signal the proposal to hike the fee for the masters programme. The decision was taken on recommendations of a three-member committee on reforms on the MTech programme in the IITs. The primary reason for the fee hike in MTech was based on the exit of students at the Mid course following getting better job and cracking a competitive exam.
The fee hike issue will be discussed in the next meeting of the IIT Council. The next council meeting date has not been decided yet.
The development comes against the backdrop of protests by JNU students against the fee hike.
