New Delhi: Indian Institute of Technology Delhi (IIT) Delhi is starting two new BTech programmes this year (2020-21). One by our Department of Applied Mechanics (B.Tech in Engineering & Computational Mechanics) and the second by our Department of Materials Science & Engineering (B.Tech in Materials Engineering).

The two programmes will have strong industry connect and the curricula designed by world leading experts.

The new undergraduate program, BTech in Materials Engineering will run by  the Department of Materials Science and Engineering (DMSE). The first batch of students will be joining in 2020 through the Joint Entrance Examination .

The second new undergraduate program, BTech in Engineering & Computational Mechanics, will run by Department of Applied Mechanics. The new programme from the academic session 2020-21.

“The graduates of this programme are likely to find the best technical jobs in core engineering and will also be very apt candidates for higher studies like Master’s and PhD in IIT Delhi as well as other leading national and international educational institutions,” said Prof Sanjeev Sanghi, HoD, Applied Mechanics.

BTech in Materials Engineering:  Students qualifying JEE (Advanced) in 2020 and in coming years and choosing IIT Delhi will be eligible for this programme. The new programme will be offered by the Institute’s Materials Science and Engineering Department and there will be 40 seats this year. Speaking of the new programme, Prof Josemon Jacob, Head, Department of Materials Science and Engineering said, “The development, selection and processing of materials are central to any engineering advancement. The UG programme in Materials Engineering is designed to equip the students with the necessary knowledge and skills to cater to all industrial sectors that require knowledge in material design and engineering to meet the growing industrial as well as the academic demands of our country.”

BTech in Engineering and Computational Mechanics: The Department of Applied Mechanics at IIT Delhi is starting a B. Tech in Engineering and Computational Mechanics. This will be a 4 year B.Tech program with entry through Advanced JEE.

The students taking this course will be able to analyse complex interdisciplinary phenomena relevant to problems in industry and cutting edge research through experimentation, analysis and computation.

Design, analysis and research jobs in sectors such as defence, aerospace, automotive, shipping, bio-mechanics and bio-medical devices, off-shore structures etc. will be open to students doing this program which has been designed based on consultation with industry. Equipped with analytical and state of the art experimental and numerical skills learned during the program the students will be able to pursue Master’s and PhD program in best Universities in India and abroad.
