New Delhi, 19th December 2018: The second SHRM India Public Enterprises conference concluded today at Scope Complex, New Delhi. The event brought together over 300 HR Leaders, Functional Heads, and Experts & Decision-makers of Public Enterprises. With the theme ‘Unite to Ignite’, the leaders networked and discussed diverse elements of business, strategy, and people, to harnesses the power of unity, thus redefining the future of HR in public enterprises. Ms Achal Khanna, CEO, SHRM India & Business Head – APAC & MENA inaugurated the conference with her welcome note.
Ms Achal Khanna, CEO, SHRM India and Business Head, MENA & APAC, while addressing the conference, said, “In this fast changing competitive environment, organizations in the public sector are faced with the same challenges and headwinds as their private sector counterparts. We at SHRM are committed to powering better workplaces across sectors and this event is a part of our commitment to improve the HR landscape in the country. We have a panel of experts from the government and private sector along with experts from the academia who will share their perspective on this important subject. In this context, HR in PSUs need to play a more strategic role in order to stay ahead in the race. It is now time to integrate HR with other business functions. In the inaugural session, “New Challenges of leadership in the Emerging Business Environment”, Dr. U. D Choubey, Director General, SCOPE; Prabhat Singh; MD & CEO, Petronet, shared their insights on challenges faced by Leaders in the Public Sector in the dynamic, constantly changing and extremely competitive business environment and how to overcome them.
The session was followed by an inaugural keynote “Igniting Transformational Change”, wherein Suresh Sethi, MD & CEO, India Post Payments Bank shared insights on how to drive change at a transformational level in the organization. Drawing from his experience of connecting over 390 million customers of India Post to the banking system, Suresh laid bare the basics of transformational change are sometimes as basic as accessibility, training and adoption of technology. Of course a favorable regulation is an important foundation for such a change.
The launch of the SHRM-Talent edge Virtual Academy was one of the highlights of the conference. The academy offers courses in over 20 domains with faculty drawn from top institutes like IIMs, XLRI, MICA, and industry experts from top corporations. With a blend of live classes, virtual classes, online modules and offline materials, the academy will reach even remote locations and will be of great help to the learning and training needs of organizations.
In an insightful session on “Strategic HR in Public Enterprises”, the eminent HR experts, Saptarshi Roy, Director, HR, NTPC; VC Bhandari, Director HR, EIL; DP Singh; Sr EVP Chandigarh University; Usha Singh, Director HR, MOIL shared their perspectives on how Strategic HR can be a game changer for Public enterprises.
Talent Analytics an Applied Discipline; Future Ready PSE Leaders: Resilient. Bold; Employee Experience: Thriving in the Digital World with New-Age Employee Benefits; Age to Engage: Engagements Strategies for a Motivated Workforce; were some of the other interesting sessions during the daylong event.
