Gandhinagar: ‘Winter Institute in Digital Humanities’ (WIDH), one of a kind winter school designed to explore and understand digital studies across several disciplines such as Humanities, Social Sciences, Design and Computation Sciences concluded yesterday at the Indian Institute of Technology Gandhinagar (IITGN). This international workshop was designed and organised collaboratively by IIT Gandhinagar and the University of Saskatchewan (USask) from December 8 to 22, 2019. This winter school was supported by the Shastri Indo-Canadian Institute, Ministry of Human Resource Development (MHRD), Government of India, the Research and Development wing of IIT Gandhinagar, and by the University of Saskatchewan, Canada.

Hashtag #WIDH has been trending on social media sites for the last two weeks, between December 8 and 22, 2019. The institute aimed at initiating an interdisciplinary dialogue on digital studies. Topics covered included but were not limited to critical approaches to digital resources, Artificial Intelligence, archives and rural India, statistical tools, mapping techniques, epics and new media, pedagogic methods, social media analysis, visualization and Digital Humanities tools,and other diverse perspectives that impact various streams of humanities in this era of digitisation. A range of scholarly talks, keynote lectures, and workshops by invited distinguished speakers and faculty experts from USask and IITGN, provided the participants a significant understanding of theoretical developments in the field of digital humanities and hands-on experience with key digital tools and methods. Thinkers such as Anil P Gupta, K P Jayasankar, P Sainath, and Jatindra Kumar Nayak delivered the keynote sessions in the winter institute.
