New Delhi: Annual Refresher Programme in Teaching, popularly known as ARPIT, an online professional development program for 15 lakhs higher education faculty using the MOOCs platform SWAYAM.  Successful completion of online exam will be equivalent to one refresher course of UGC for Career Advancement Scheme (CAS).

ARPIT prohramme is built in assessment exercises and activities as a part of the academic progression in the course. ARPIT is 40 hour programme with 20 hour of video content offered in a highly flexible format which can be done at own’s pace and time. The programme is available in the MOOCs platform SWAYAM.

Annual refresher programme for teachers in higher education institutions using the SWAYAM online portal has seen a massive jump in enrolments: Nearly 1.5 Lakh teachers (last year 50,000) enrolled for over 40 online course, as per HRD Ministry.

For implementing ARPIT, 75 discipline-specific National Resource Centres (NRCs) were identified in the first phase(2018) and 48 discipline-specific National Resource Centres (NRCs) in the second phase (2019). These courses are tasked to prepare online training material with focus on latest developments in the earmarked discipline, new & emerging trends, pedagogical improvements and methodologies for transacting revised curriculum.

ARPIT will be an ongoing exercise so that every year NRCs will continuously develop new refresher module in their earmarked discipline each year. The training materials will be uploaded and made available through SWAYAM. Respective NRC will publish the list of the faculty who has been certified.

The course will be followed by an online exam. The National Testing Agency (NTA) has announced that it would be conducting the Annual Refresher Programme in Teaching (ARPIT) examination 2020 while the certification would be done through SWAYAM. The examination of 48 ARPIT courses will be held on 16th February 2020 in two slots/shifts.

It would be a Computer Based Test (objective multiple-choice test) of 3 hrs duration of 100 questions of maximum 100 marks.

For ARPIT –NTA exam Feb 2020, the registrations for ARPIT examination has started from 18 December 2019 and last date for registration is 17 January 2020.

Faculty with such certificates can use them for availing the equivalence recognized by UGC, as a refresher course for their Career Advancement Scheme (CAS). Non-Faculty Learners also will be given certificates from SWAYAM.
