Tirupati : Sree Vidyanikethan International School (SVIS), under the visionary leadership of Padma Shri Dr. M. Mohan Babu (Actor & Politician), is proud to celebrate a significant milestone: the 100th year since the discovery of Mohenjo-Daro, a cornerstone of India’s historical heritage. Through its esteemed Heritage Club, SVIS has curated a transformative journey & immersive learning experience, exploring and honouring the profound legacy of the ancient Indus-Saraswati River Valley Civilization.

Throughout 2023, SVIS students engaged in a spectrum of immersive experiences that transcended conventional learning boundaries. This initiative was designed to not merely teach history but to bring it to life. Students delved into the cradle of couture i.e. fashion of the Indus-Saraswati civilization, uncovered the intricate artistry of Kalamkari design, and mastered the delicate craft of basket weaving. The immersive journey also included a cinematic exploration of the grandeur and historical importance of the Indus Valley Civilization, alongside workshops on Archaeological Excavations and Evidence, Carbon Dating Methods to reconstruct history, and the hands-on creation of Harappan Seals. Additionally, students collaborated on dynamic interdisciplinary art projects, fostering a holistic understanding of our rich heritage.

The pinnacle of this year-long event was the culmination of exclusive workshops and visits to archaeological sites across India. These visits expanded students’ understanding of India’s illustrious heritage, encompassing visits to revered ancient temples and textile weaving hubs, showcasing the exemplary craftsmanship of ancient times. Noteworthy among these visits was the awe-inspiring Gudimallam stone lingam at the Parasurameswara temple, a 2600-year-old architectural gem nestled along the banks of the Swarnamukhi River. Additionally, students explored other historically significant sites such as the Gopuram, Sun Temple & Subramaniya Swamy temple.

This immersive learning was further enhanced through poster making, papercraft activities, offering children insights into Harappan lifestyle through interactive experiences. These activities fostered a deep connection with history, enabling students not only to learn but also to immerse themselves in the vibrancy of the past.

Reflecting on this initiative, Incharges of SVIS Heritage Club Mr. G. Jayachandra and  Mr. C. Seshagiri expressed, “At SVIS, our educational approach transcends traditional teaching methods. We redefine education by nurturing inquisitive minds through immersive experiences. The Heritage Club at SVIS is an opportunity for the students to explore the rich heritage of India and the globe, and celebrate its roots. This Year 2023 marked the 100th year since the discovery of Mohenjo-Daro, a proud emblem of Indian civilization. We are delighted to have planned various activities centred around this theme to foster respect for our heritage and raise awareness about the diversity of our history. The Heritage Club’s activities not only ignite a passion for learning but instill a profound sense of pride in our rich cultural heritage.”

The Heritage Club at SVIS secured an impressive 2nd position in India. Additionally, it excelled in the esteemed International Geodiversity Day Challenge hosted by INTACH—an organization with special consultative status with the United Nations Economic and Social Council.
