New Delhi: Staff Selection Commission conducts Combined Graduate level exam for the officer and clerk level post in various government departments. In this exam four sections are asked, English language and comprehension, Reasoning Ability, Quantitative Aptitude and General Awareness. The candidates should score well in all four sections to secure seat in SSC CGL exam. Through this article we are sharing important topics to focus to score 40+ marks in General Awareness section.

This section can be further divided in to sub sections as given below:-

❖           Current Affairs and Static GK

❖           General Science

❖           History

❖           Geography

❖           Political Science

❖           Economics

The sub section wise important topics are given below:-

Current Affairs and Static GK: – The candidates must stay updated with the national and international news which are important for exam point of view. The important topics to be covered in this subsection are given below:-

❖           Current Affairs: – Important changes in world and Indian political, economic and judicial changes, important meetings, committees.

❖           International Organizations: – Like UN, UNESCO, IMF, World Bank, NDB, ADB, AIIB, SCO etc. Important posts held, structure and history of these organizations can be asked in SSC CGL Tier-1 Exam.

❖           Olympic Games: – History of Olympic games, Winners of recently conducted Olympic games, important facts, like venue of next games.

❖           Trophies and Cups: – Trophies and cups associated with various games, their venue and period of occurrence.

❖           Places Associated With Sports: – Like national game of a country, Famous stadiums, Famous players of a country etc.

❖           Noble Prize, Grammy Awards, Ramon Magsaysay Award, Pulitzer Prize, Jnanpith Award, Bharat Ratna and other important national and international awards: – Winners of recent prizes and history of this prize.

General Science: – This sub section is very important as per the previous year’s trends the weightage of this sub section has increased a lot. There are some important topics in this section which should be covered for good results:-

❖           Universe: Important facts related to stars and planets, number of moons of planets, sequence of planets as per size and distance from sun.

❖           Electricity and its properties: The types of metals and their properties, concepts related to current, resistance, and voltage like ohms laws

❖           Atomic structure: Types of structures, Properties of electrons, protons, nucleus etc.

❖           Radioactivity and nuclear reactions: Types of radioactive elements, discoveries related to it.

                Types of nuclear reactions and properties of radioactive radiations.

❖           Cell: types, structure, organelles and functions of each organelles, important theories and discoveries associated with cells.

❖           Genetics: DNA, ribosomes, nucleus, genetically caused disorders, discoveries and new advancement in this field.

❖           Classification: Classification of plants and animals on the basis of various parameters.

❖           Discoveries and inventions: The important discoveries and inventions.

❖           Human organ system: Nervous system, digestive system, Endocrine system, respiratory system, reproductive system, skeletal system and excretory system.

❖           Human Diseases: Types of diseases, causes and mode of transmission, symptoms, vaccinations to cure disease.

❖           Nutrition: Types of nutrition, sources of nutrition, important minerals, vitamins, fats, proteins, carbohydrates and disease caused by deficiency of nutrition.

❖           Properties of matters: Types of matters on the basis of states and compositions.

❖           Chemical bonds: Types of chemical bonds examples and properties of each bond.

❖           Classification of elements: Modern periodic table, properties of metals, non-metals and metalloids and properties of elements.

❖           Electrochemistry: Reduction, oxidation, and redox reactions. Important laws associated with electrochemistry.

❖           Hydrocarbons and organic compounds: Classification of organic compounds, important properties

❖           Acids and bases: The common names of important acids, bases and salts, types of acids and bases found in various fruits vegetables and insects.

❖           Metallurgy: Minerals and ores, names of ores of famous metals like iron, aluminum, gold etc. Methods involved in metallurgy

❖           Global warming: Greenhouse effect and greenhouse gases

❖           Chemistry in everyday life: The chemical and common names of important chemical compounds used in various daily activities

History: – The history of India is mainly asked in this exam. There are certain important topics to be covered in this sub section:-

❖           Ancient India:- Harappa civilization, Vedic and post Vedic period, Mauryan Empire, Post Mauryan Kingdoms, Gupta Kingdom, Post Guptas or Contemporary Guptas.

❖           Delhi Sultanate: – Rise of Delhi sultanate with invasions of Muslim invaders, Timeline and important monuments constructed by Delhi Sultans. The causes of fall and important battles fought.

❖           Mughals: – Foundation of Mughals, important battles fought, cultural and political changes, important events.

❖           Post Mughals: – Fall of Mughals, wars of Mughals with Maratha, Seekhs and other important battles, Eastern trade companies foundation.

❖           Modern History: – Dominance of British company over Bangla, Relationship of British with Mysore, Revolt of Sikh, and Governor General: Name and sequence, important changes and rules by them. Important freedom fights, facts related to the great Indian leaders, Indian National Congress, Important acts etc.

Geography: – The important topics of this sub section are given below:-

❖           Universe: Solar system and important facts about planets.

❖           Earth: Structure and formation of planet earth, atmosphere and its layers, various structures of earth and causes their formation.

❖           Atmosphere: Layers of atmosphere, properties, composition and use of every layer.

❖           Oceans and seas: Location of oceans, properties, size and depth of oceans, types of vegetation found, Minerals and ores: Types of minerals and ores, geographical locations of famous ores.

❖           Continents: Geographical location of continents, sequence in terms of size and population, important countries and resources.

❖           Transports: Types of transports in world, name of famous railway lines, air routes, sea routes, river routes.

❖           Climate of India: – Dependency of Indian agriculture of monsoon, crop pattern, types of soils, mountains, rivers, plains, hills, parks and important resources and their locations.

Political Science: – The questions are mainly asked from Indian constitutions and political structure of India. The important topics are given below:-

❖           Leaders: – Important leaders associated with the formation of constitution.

❖           Derivations in constitution: – Important concepts derived from other countries.

❖           Parts and Articles of Indian Constitution: – Important parts and articles of Indian constitution are asked in exams.

❖           Features: – Important features of Indian constitution.

❖           Amendments: – Important amendments in Indian constitution.

❖           Powers and duties: – Important positions in Indian polity like President, Chief justice, Attorney General and their duties, terms and powers.

❖           Indian Judicial System: – Structure of Indian judicial system and the powers, terms and jurisdiction of courts.

❖           Important articles: – Important articles related to the judiciary system of India.

❖           Election Commission: – Structure, important positions, terms and other important facts related.

❖           Other important government bodies: – Important government bodies like UPSC, CAG, PSUs, RBI, SEBI, IRDAI etc.

Economics: – The important topics of this subsection are given below:-

❖           Five Year Plans: – Foundation, Features of previous five year plans like formula on which the plans were based, achievements and drawbacks of five year plans.

❖           Indian Tax Structure: – Types of taxes in Indian tax structure, important changes in past.

❖           Economic Terms: – Important acronyms related to the Indian economic system.

❖           NITI Aayog: – Foundation, structure, roles, and important positions held.

❖           Agriculture and Land Development: – Important developments in agriculture sector like green revolution white revolution, yellow revolution etc.

❖           National Income: – Various methods of calculation for National income, GDP and important parameters.

❖           Unemployment: – Types of unemployment and measures taken to overcome this situation.

❖           Industry: – Important industries in India, their spread and importance in development of India.

❖           Foreign Trade: – Types of exports and imports in India, the importance of trade in economic development and important facts and figures of Indian trades.

❖           Indian Fiscal System: – Regulators, laws governing fiscal system, and important facts about fiscal system.
