Mumbai, 01 August 2020: Graduate Aptitude Test in Engineering (GATE) – a qualifying test for those seeking admissions to Mater’s (MTech) and PhD Programmes in Science and Technology, especially in IITs, NITs and CFTIs, and jobs in some PSUs –will see a dramatic change in the coming year. Now, students from Humanities and Social Sciences (Commerce, Arts and Social Sciences) can apply to appear GATE 2021 Exam.
IIT Bombay, the organizing Institute for GATE 2021, has announced the inclusion of two new subjects – ES (Environmental Science and Engineering) and XH (Humanities and Social Sciences), taking total subjects to 27 for 2021. This is the first time in 36 years since the beginning that a non science and engineering paper is being introduced in GATE.
Under Humanities and Social Sciences GATE New paper, English, Economics, Linguistics, Psychology, Sociology, and Philosophy students can appear the Test. Now these students will be eligible for Ministry of HRD scholarships based on GATE score.
While lauding the new initiatives of the GATE-2021 committee, Prof. Subhasis Chaudhuri, Director of IIT Bombay, said, “I am particularly delighted at the creation of much needed new career opportunities for those in the Humanities and Social Sciences area as this may serve as one single standardized criterion for admission to various Master’s and Doctoral programs in various IITs and other universities in India. Should any agency, for example, various PSUs want to hire candidates with Humanities background, this new exam paper in GATE will prove to be a great enabler!”
Eligibility for GATE 2021 Exam: A candidate who is currently studying in 3rd or higher years of any undergraduate degree program OR has already completed any government approved degree program in Engineering / Technology / Architecture / Science / Commerce / Arts.
The exam dates of Graduate Aptitude Test in Engineering (GATE) 2021 have been announced. The dates for the GATE-2021 examination have been spread out over a longer duration as 5th, 6th, 7th, 12th, 13th and 14th February 2021.
GATE is one of the toughest competitive examinations in India. Nearly 8-10 lakh candidates apply for the GATE Exam.
