Kharagpur, 01 August 2021: IIT Kharagpur has launched official website of Graduate Aptitude Test in Engineering (GATE) 2022 and released its Information Brochure. IIT Kharagpur is the organizing institute of Graduate Aptitude Test in Engineering (GATE ) 2022.
IIT Kharagpur informed that the dates of the GATE 2022 examination are scheduled to be held on 5th, 6th and 12th, 13th February, 2022.
The application portal will open for registration from 30 August 2021. Closing Date of REGULAR online registration/ application process is 24 September 2021. End of Extended period for online Registration / application (with late fee) is 01 October 2021.
No of Papers: Two new subject papers are available to the candidates, namely GE (Geomatics Engineering) and NM (Naval Architecture and Marine Engineering) making the total number of GATE papers as 29.
Eligibility in Brief: A candidate who is currently studying in the 3rd or higher years of any undergraduate degree program OR has already completed any government approved degree program in Engineering / Technology / Architecture / Science / Commerce / Arts is eligible for appearing in the GATE 2022 exam.
Pattern of Exam: The examination would be purely a Computer Based Test (CBT). The duration of test will be Three Hours.
There will be two Sections of the Test:
- General Aptitude (GA)
- Candidate’s Selected Subject
The online examination papers will contain some questions of(i) Multiple Choice Question (MCQ) type, where only one option out of four options is correct. Remaining questions may be of (ii) Multiple Select Question (MSQ) type, where one or more than one options out of four options is/are correct, and / or (iii) Numerical Answers Type (NAT) where answer must be keyed in by the candidate using a virtual keypad.
General Aptitude (GA): The total number questions will be 10 carrying total marks of 15. Questions carry 1 mark and 2 marks.
Distribution of Marks in all Papers EXCEPT papers AR, CY, EY, GG, MA, PH, XH and XL:
- General Aptitude: 15 Marks +
- Engineering Mathematics: 13 Marks +
- Subject Questions: 72 Marks =
- Total: 100 Marks
Distribution of Marks in papers AR, CY, EY, GG, MA, PH, XH and XL:
- General Aptitude: 15 Marks
- Subject Questions: 85 Marks
- Total: 100 Marks
Negative Marks: For a wrong answer chosen in a MCQ, there will be negative marking. For 1-mark MCQ, 1/3 mark will be deducted for a wrong answer. Likewise, for 2-mark MCQ, 2/3 mark will be deducted for a wrong answer
The candidates will use ONLY an on-screen virtual calculator provided for the examination.
The Results of GATE 2002 are scheduled to be declared in the Online Application Portal on 17 March 2022.
