New Delhi:  It is a good news for PhD scholars or MPhil students in Jawaharlal Nehru University (JNU), India’s Top Ranked university. The university introduces a host of measures for the process of evaluation of MPhil dissertation/PhD thesis. Hence, JNU goes for paperless mode for PhD.

As per new changes introduced by JNU, MPhil students or PhD scholars can submit their dissertation or thesis via email as PDF documents and get the work evaluated in a time-bound manner.

Even viva-voce will be conducted online. Further, no permission for holding viva-voce will be required where the viva-voce is proposed to held online.

The evolution branch of  the university has released the new measures for the process of evaluation of MPhil dissertation and PhD thesis. JNU also released the complete guideline having Time Line, Action Table and Remarks for the paperless PhD.

Once, MPhil students or PhD scholars  submit their dissertation or thesis via email, the examiners will get auto-reminders about the dates and in case of a delay, the task will be passed on to the next examiner.

Tentative time will be provided to the examiner to evaluate and send back the recommendation and detailed report duly signed by him or her.  Even, evaluation report and recommendation proforma  duly signed by the examiners to be received via email. Hard copy  of these copies no more required.

The process of evolution  of MPhil dissertation or PhD thesis &  viva-voce used to take almost eight months to more than a year for various reasons. But now with the new process of evolution and guidelines, the entire evaluation process, including the viva-voce, will be over in a few months, but not exceeding six months.

More than half of the 8,800 JNU students are MPhil/PhD scholars. Now the era of submitting the dissertation or thesis via  physical mode or hard copies is over.
