New Delhi: The Indira Gandhi National Open University (IGNOU) has invited applications for admissions to the Master of Philosophy (MPhil) and Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) programmes for January 2017 session. As per the admission notification by IGNOU, the last date of submission of online application is 31 October 2016. All India entrance test will be held on 4 December 2016.
Eligibility for MPhil: 1.(a) The candidate must have master’s degree of any recognized University. The minimum eligibility criteria is 55% marks at Post Graduation level [50% in case of reserved categories {SC, ST, OBC (Non-Creamy) and PWD}]. (b) Also for detailed discipline specific eligibility criteria, candidate should refer the Information Brochure IGNOU research degree programmes.
Eligibility for PhD: The candidate must have master’s degree and/or MPhil in the relevant discipline along with the qualifications mentioned in point 1(a) above. Also for detailed discipline specific eligibility criteria, candidate should refer the Information Brochure IGNOU research degree programmes.
However, candidates holding MPhil degree (along with course work and dissertation both) or those candidates who have cleared NET (conducted by UGC/CSIR/ICAR) or any other equivalent examination will be exempted from appearing in the Entrance Test. Those who have not cleared NET/any other equivalent examination or not holding MPhil Degree will be required to appear for the entrance test.

The Entrance Test will be conducted at the national level in the selected centres across the country.
Selection Procedure:
Stage 1: Entrance Test
Stage 2: Interview/ Presentation: Candidates who will be successful in the Entrance Test will be called for interview/presentation of Synopsis before the Discipline Doctoral Committee. Those candidates exempted from appearing in the Entrance Test will also be called for interview/presentation of Synopsis before the Discipline Doctoral Committee. Offer letters for admission will be sent to the Selected Candidates only.
Application fee of Rs. 1,000/- is non-refundable under any circumstances.
