New Delhi:  The University Grand Commission (UGC) has directed that now each university will have to maintain the list of all the MPhil and PhD registered students including name of the registered candidate, topic of his/her research, name of supervisor/co-supervisor, date of enrollment/registration on their websites on year-wise basis. This data must be updated on the university’s website on regular basis and intimated to the UGC by email also.

As per the UGC circular, the information may be made available on the homepage of the concerned university’s website with a dedicated link.  UGC informed that the same may be intimated to the UGC by email. All universities will have to maintain this data base as per the clause 5.6 of University Grants commission (Minimum standards and Procedure for Award of MPhil/PhD Degrees) Regulations, 2016.  The link for the circular is given below: http://www.ugc.ac.in/pdfnews/3206190_UGC-letter-regarding-Regulations-on-Ph.D.-M.Phil..pdf .

Here it can be mentioned that the UGC (Minimum standards and Procedure for Award of MPhil/PhD Degrees) Regulations 2016 have become operational from the date of the publication, effective from 5 July 2016. There are certain procedures which the university needs to follow: the eligibility criteria for admission to the MPhil/PhD programme; duration of the programme, procedure for admission; allocation of Research Supervisor; course work; setting up of Research Advisory Committee; following the evaluation and assessment methods and submitting the electronic copy of MPhil and PhD thesis to INFLIBNET (an Inter-University Centre of UGC), besides other clauses as per the Regulations.

The maintaining of data base of the MPhil and PhD registered students aims at bringing transparency in admission and research procedure.  This measure by the UGC will also streamline and facilitate cooperation between academics, research scholars(MPhil and PhD students), Industry partners.
