New Delhi: The mentoring & counseling committee of Deen Dayal Upadhayaya College organized a mentoring workshop for the faculty & teachers, “Teachers as Mentors” in line with a UGC requirement to incorporate student mentoring as part of their roles & responsibilities. The interactive session took place over 2 days for over 100 faculty members, where the team from zyego covered topics on the need of mentoring, the mentor mentee relationship, qualities of a good mentor and mentor sensitization program. The program was conducted in association with zyego, the health tech start-up working with educational institutions on emotional wellness and psychological counseling.
In the words of Dr. Anubha Mukherjee Sen, Convener – Mentoring &Counseling Committee, Deen Dayal Upadhayaya College“The nature of induction and mentoring has evolved with time. For example, induction was conceived initially as a temporary bridge to support new teachers in their role while mentoring was about providing a ‘buddy’ to help new teachers. But today,it encompasses on building teacher knowledge, skills and reflective practices as required of professionals.”
According to Arindam Sen, Founder – zyego, “A teacher’s role in the modern learning scheme is very crucial as a teacher, facilitator and guide. Nowadays, children are not dependent on textbooks alone and learning goes beyond academics and needs to incorporate social and emotional needs and life skills to manage the same. EQ (emotional quotient) is as important as IQ.
