Xavier University, Bhubaneswar hosts third Convocation

Bhubaneswar: Xavier University, Bhubaneswar (XUB), one of the premier Universities of India, held its  3rd Convocation on 22nd March 2017. A total of 649 students graduated from various programmes of the Schools under the University: Doctoral Programme, MBA – BM, MBA – HRM, MBA – RM, MBA – SM, MBA – Global, MBA (Exe), MA (Mass Communication), and PG Dip. Film and TV Production.

Mr Vinod Kumar,Managing Director and Group CEO of Tata Communications Limited graced the occasion as Chief Guest and delivered the Convocation address. Amongst the distinguished personalities present were Mr. RajiveKaul, Chairman NICCO Corporation Limited, Kolkata and Chairman of the XUB, XIMB Board of Governors, Officials of Xavier University Bhubaneswar and noted Academicians, Senior Government Officials and Corporate Leaders, who are also a part of our elite Board of Governors. A large number of parents of the graduating students were also present. The top rank holders across schools were presented with Gold Medals by the Chief Guest for their achievements in Academic Excellence.

The convocation ceremony commenced with a welcome note by Fr. E.A Augustine, S.J. Registrar, Xavier University Bhubaneswar followed by the Vice Chancellor’s report by Dr. Prof.Fr. Paul Fernandes S.J.and Chairman’s address by Mr.Rajive Kaul. The degree/diploma was awarded by the Chairman and the Vice Chancellor.

The Vice Chancellor, Fr. Paul Fernandes in his address to the audience elaborated the achievements of Xavier University Bhubaneswar. Xavier University Bhubaneswar (XUB) is a globally recognized University of repute delivering quality management education to the students from the world over. He said, in its endeavor to take up the tasks which are bold but necessary and which hitherto nobody has taken up, the Xavier City Campus of the Xavier University was inaugurated on 7 July 2014. Presently it hosts six Schools of management education offering Doctoral, Masters and Under-graduate programmes and more and more schools will be added each year.

History was made in October 1987 with the establishment of XIMB (Xavier Institute of Management Bhubaneswar), Xavier University’s flagship management institute which, over the past 30 years has been recognized as a premier Business School in the country. It aspires to lead the country in management education by focusing on research and innovation. Its intellectual capital rankings have been in the top five in the country consistently.

In his speech Father Paul, the Vice Chancellor highlighted various achievements of the University, faculty and students in the past year that had brought laurels and global recognition to Xavier University Bhubaneswar in the sphere of research, academia, sports and cultural activities. He congratulated the batch of 2017 and told the students to be the light to the world, always have faith and never be afraid of hard work and excellence. He urged them to always rekindle the core values imparted to them.

In his speech, Fr. E.A Augustine said “Focus on future, always stay true to your and enable other people to lead extraordinary lives”. The chief guest, Mr Vinod Kumar also addressed the students on Career Planning and emphasized team work and team spirit are very essential for corporate success. Also “To be value based first, and performance oriented thereafter”, he added.
